Wins for Van Duijvenbode and Kleermaker at World Championship

Wim Blokpoel - Last night 2 more Dutchmen played their last 64 games at the 2022 PDC World Championship: Dirk van Duijvenbode and Martijn Kleermaker.

Van Duijvenbode took on Boris Koltsov from Russia, who had won against Jermaine Wattimena in round 1. Van Duijvenbode narrowly won the first set 3-2. However, in set 2 Koltsov comfortably won his set 3-0 to make it 1-1. Van Duijvenbode played very poor, as he also lost set 3 1-3, and saw himself going 1-2 down. At 2-1 down in sets, Van Duijvenbode also got 1-0 down in legs, but then won 3 legs in a row to make it 2-2 in sets. In the deciding set DVD had the throw, when Koltsov missed 5 darts at double to break but it was Aubergenius who went 1-0 up. DVD then missed 9 darts at double to break himself as it was 1-1. Both held throw again for 2-2, as we went into the phase where a player had to win 2 more legs than the other. Van Duijvenbode held throw once more for 3-2 and had to break Koltsov to win the game. The Russian missed 5 darts at double once more to hold throw, as DVD hit the winning double and won an absolute thriller! In the last 32 he now plays Ross Smith.

After a 3-1 win over John Michael in round 1, Martijn Kleermaker now took on Australia’s number one Simon Whitlock. Kleermaker started well and went 2-0 up in set 1, but then collapsed. However, Whitlock didn’t throw much this set either, and Kleermaker still won it 3-2 to go 1-0 up. Set 2 was another scrappy set, and this time it was the wizzard who won it 3-2 to level at 1-1. In set 3 Whitlock started playing even worse, and Kleermaker won his own set again for 2-1. In set 4 Kleermaker finally woke up, and just like in his first game, the final set was easily won 3-0 to win the game 3-1, and go into the last 32 in his World Championship debut! In the last 32 he now plays 13 seed Joe Cullen.
