Win for VVDV, defeat for Meulenkamp at World Championship

21-12-2021

Wim Blokpoel - Tonight two more Dutchmen played their last 64 PDC 2022 World Championship games. Former UK Open finalist Vincent van der Voort took on Adam Hunt.

In set 1 Hunt was 2-1 up, but Van der Voort still managed to win the set 3-2. In set 2 it once again was Hunt who took the lead, 2-0, but then had 3 awful legs, as Van der Voort once again took his chances and won the set 3-2 once more. In set 3 Hunt looked destroyed, Van der Voort comfortably won it 3-0, and won the match 3-0 in sets despite an average below 90. As Van der Voort said himself: ‘my worst win ever, but a win is a win’. He now plays James Wade in the last 32!

The other Dutchman who played his second round tonight was Ron ‘The Bomb’ Meulenkamp, after his 3-0 win over Lisa Ashton in round 1. Meulenkamp now took on former Worlds finalist Michael Smith. Smith started the game with a 110 finish, and won the first set 3-0, averaging well over a ton. In set 2 a 95 finish to start for Smith. Almere’s Meulenkamp did manage to win his first leg of the game, but still lost it 1-3, as ‘Bullyboy’ went 2-0 up. In set 3 Meulenkamp soon saw himself 2-0 down again, and Smith ended the game with an 11-darter for a 3-0 win. Meulenkamp still hasn’t made the last 32 of the Worlds, hopefully next year!
