Wattimena only Dutchman in last 16 of PC9 2021
The best run of the day came from Westervoort’s Jermaine Wattimena. He started with a 6-3 win against Kim Huybrechts, followed by a 6-2 win over fellow Dutchman Derk Telnekes in round 2. In his board final Wattimena only averaged 86 but it was enough to beat Matthew Edgar 6-4. Wattimena’s best average came in the last 16: 94.6, but he still lost 4-6 to Matchplay Champion Dimitri van den Bergh.
Ron the Bomb Meulenkamp had a Dutch day. In round 1 he had a 6-2 win against Patrick van den Bogaard and in round 2 there was another 6-2 win against a fellow Dutchman: Luc Peters. In his board final Meulenkamp was beaten 3-6 by Jason Lowe.
Danny Noppert had another decent day on the pro tour. A 6-2 win in round 1 against Adam Gawlas, and then in round 2 an average of almost 94 in beating Steve Beaton 6-4. In round 3 Noppert lost 4-6 to Jamie Hughes.
Former Lakeside World Champion Christian Kist was back in action as one of the replacements. And how! Kist averaged 95.6 in beating Dutch star Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-4. In round 2 Kist played on stream and won comfortably 6-3 against Croatian Pero Ljubic. The board final was also the end for Kist as he lost 2-6 to German Gabriel Clemens.
As mentioned Telnekes and Peters lost to fellow Dutchmen in round 2. Before that they respectivly won against Lisa Ashton (6-3) and Madars Razma (6-4). 3 more Dutch wins to go. Geert Nentjes beat fellow Dutchman Lorenzo Pronk 6-1 in round 1, but then lost 3-6 to Nick Kenny. Young Niels Zonneveld from Uitgeest started with a 6-4 win over Welshman Jon Worsley, but lost in round 2 despite averaging over 98, 4-6 to eventual finalist Luke Humphries. Finally, Kevin Doets beat Jack Main 6-2, but then lost 4-6 on the stream to Gabriel Clemens in the last 64.
Some first round Dutch defeats have not been mentioned yet. They came from: Michael van Gerwen (4-6 against Josh Payne), Vincent van der Voort (5-6 against Sebastian Bialecki), Berry van Peer (0-6 against Damon Heta), Benito van de Pas (4-6 against Ross Smith), Davy Proosten (3-6 against Justin Pipe), Raymond van Barneveld (3-6 against Ryan Meikle), Maik Kuivenhoven (1-6 against José de Sousa), Gino Vos (2-6 against Max Hopp), Vincent van der Meer (2-6 against Andy Boulton), Ryan de Vreede (1-6 against Michael Smith) and Jelle Klaasen (2-6 against Steve Lennon).
