Van Gerwen wins PL night 9 in Leeds

08-04-2022

Wim Blokpoel - Yesterday the ninth night of the 2022 PDC Cazoo Premier League was played in Leeds. Michael van Gerwen came in action, as always.

But, MVG did have a bye to the semi-finals, after Gary Anderson withdrew: he tested positive for covid. In that semi-final, Van Gerwen played against World Number One and World Champion Peter Wright. Both men missed a lot of doubles, but MVG had the throw, and managed to break throw twice which eventually gave him a 6-3 win over Wright. Into ghe final again, this time Mighty Mike played James Wade. Van Gerwen took an easy 3-0 lead, while averaging 104. Wade managed to make it 3-1, but Van Gerwen was simply unstoppable. A 13-darter for 4-1, one leg later it was 5-1 and in leg 7 Van Gerwen hit an 11-darter for a 6-1 win over Wade, an average of well over a ton, and another Premier League Night won! MVG is still top of the league, with 3 points more than number two Clayton, and an immense leg difference of +37!!
