Van Gerwen wins Nordic Darts Masters!

Wim Blokpoel - Tonight MVG played Jonny Clayton in the semi-finals of the 2021 Viaplay Nordic Darts Masters. Having lost to Clayton twice on tv in 2021 Van Gerwen was looking for revenge. A very good first session from both saw Clayton go up 3-2 in the commercial break. Then MVG even improved his brilliant performance, Clayton didn’t and from 2-3 down MVG made it all the way to 7-3 up!! From here on everything went with the darts as eventually Mighty Mike won 11-7 and reached his very first tv final of 2021! 

The man in green played a very surprising finalist here, in Fallon Sherrock! The Queen of the Palace beat Van den Bergh 11-10 from 3-8 down, having survived 8 matchdarts! The man from Vlijmen started good and got 2-0 up but then Sherrock threw some incredible stuff and made it 2-3! A 14 and 2 13-darters later made it 3-6 for Fallon Sherrock, who was looking to cause one of the biggest upsets in darting history! MVG made it 4-6 with a very important leg going into the commercial break. This was 5-6 laterand an 85-finish from Van Gerwen saw him level to 6-6. MVG now threw the incredible stuff he also threw in the semi against Clayton, and let Fallon win one leg but still got 10-7 up, hit an 80-finish for a 14-darter and won his first PDC title of the year beating Sherrock 11-7 in the final!!!! MVG was in tears, and it’s beautiful to see how much it means to the Dutch number one, winning his first title in 10 months!

What a tournament this has been, Van Gerwen winning his first title of the year beating Sherrock in the final. Next up is the Gibraltar Darts Trophy and the Woman Series with more Dutch men and women playing this beautiful sport!
