Van Gerwen wins, Landman loses at World Championship
Wim Blokpoel - Today two Dutchmen played their last 64 games at the 2022 PDC World Chanpionship: Chris Landman and Michael van Gerwen.
World number 3 MVG played Chas Barstow in his opening game. A good start for both men, but at 2-2 it was MVG who seemed to win the set. However MVG missed 7 darts at double for the set as Barstow threw out 116 to steal the set and go 1-0 up! In set 2 it was Barstow who won leg 1 but that was it, and with an 80-finish the man from Vlijmen made it 1-1 in sets. Set 3 saw Barstow throw much less and MVG easily won it 3-0 for a 2-1 lead. A very good third set saw MVG hit 2 99-finishes in a row to win the game 3-1 in sets and go through to the last 32! Not the performance MVG wanted but it was enough to go through to the third round.
Michael van Gerwen 3-1 Chas Barstow (2-3, 3-1, 3-0, 3-1)
Earlier, in the afternoon, Chris Landman took on Ian White in his last 64 game. After an impressive 3-0 win over Scott Mitchell in round 1, Landman might had quite fancied his chances. However, White won the first set in the deciding leg to break the throw and go 1-0 up. In set 2 Landman was very poor as he saw his chances of a last 32 tie against Gary Anderson become very small: he lost this set 0-3 as he was 0-2 down in sets. In set 3 it was 2-2 as Landman took out a 80-finish to at least get a set, but one set later it was 3-0 for White who won the game 3-1 in sets and won his first game at the world championships since 2018, while Landman goes out.
Chris Landman 1-3 Ian White (2-3, 0-3, 3-2, 0-3)
