Van Gerwen beats Anderson at Grand Slam

19-11-2021

Wim Blokpoel - Last night the last 16 of the 2021 Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts was finished. Last Dutchman left in the field, World Number 3 Michael van Gerwen, took on 2 time World Champion Gary Anderson.

Both men started brilliant with legs won in 11 and 12 darts for 1-1. Both won legs until 4-4, where Van Gerwen finally managed to break the throw to go 6-4 up in this brilliant contest. At 6-5 Anderson got 2 darts to break back, but for unknown reasons Anderson got distracted and annoyed, which was followed by him missing those darts. MVG then made it 7-5, ans later 8-6. Anderson won another leg for 8-7, and then again had the chance to level but didn’t, as MVG made it 9-7, one leg away from the win for Mighty Mike. In leg 17 MVG missed 4 matchdarts as the Flying Scotsman made it 9-8. In leg 18 Anderson had 1 dart at tops for 9-9 but missed, as Van Gerwen did hit the winning double to win it 10-8!

MVG is through to the quarter-finals where he will take on ‘Bullyboy’ Michael Smith. This game is played on saturday night.
