Van Duijvenbode loses at Masters debut

Wim Blokpoel - Yesterday the 2022 PDC Ladbrokes Masters started. The top 24 of the world plays each other in this unranked event. Dirk van Duijvenbode made his debut in the event this year, as number 15 in the world. Number 18 Danny Noppert would have made his debut as well, but he withdrew because his first child could be born at any point now. Because of that, DVD played world number 25 and Australia’s number one Simon Whitlock.

In the first 2 legs Whitlock took out 100 and 98 to go 2-0 up. Van Duijvenbode made it 2-1, but Whitlock won back to back legs again for a 4-1 lead at the commercial break. After that, Van Duijvenbode lost another leg and saw himself go 1-5 down. He fought back and made ir 2-5, but it was Whitlock with a 16-darter to win the game 6-2, as Van Duijvenbode goes out in round 1. Tonight Dutch number one and World number three Michael van Gerwen takes on Luke Humphries in the last 16.
