Van Duijvenbode loses to Price at World Championship

30-12-2021

Wim Blokpoel - With 2 Dutchmen left in the field, the last 16 of the 2022 PDC World Darts Championship started last night. In action was Dirk van Duijvenbode, against defending champion Gerwyn Price.

In set 1 both ‘Aubergenius’ and ‘The Iceman’ started poor, but it was the Dutchman who won it 3-2 in legs. In set 2 however, Van Duijvenbode threw even worse, as Price won it 3-0 to level 1-1. In set 3 Price woke up, and won 3-0 again, including an 11-darter as DVD saw himself 1-2 down. Then at 1-0 for Price in legs, he also hit a 100-finish, and a 132-finish for 9 legs in a row, and 3 sets in a row: 1-3 for the World Number One. In set 5 it were even better finishes: 164, and to win the match 136 as Van Duijvenbode lost 12 legs in a row, averaged in the low 80’s, and lost the game 1-4 in sets. A last 16 result is still decent for Van Duijvenbode, and it provisionally puts him back in the top 16 of the world.

Dirk van Duijvenbode 1-4 Gerwyn Price (3-2, 0-3, 0-3, 0-3, 0-3)
