Two finals for Jules van Dongen in CDC
Last weekend the 3 final CDC USA events of 2021 have been played. Dutch American Jules van Dongen also played this weekend.
In CDC event 4 Van Dongen started with a 5-1 win over Erik Pitzer. In the last 32 he beat Jeff Marinucci 5-2. In the last 16 JVD played Darin Young, the American famous because of his win over RVB in the 2020 PDC World Championship. Van Dongen won the match 5-4! Into the quarter-finals Jules played against Stephen Phillips and despite a massive average of 96,5 Van Dongen lost 5-6.
Event 5 Jules van Dongen started with a 5-2 win over Michael Peter. In round 2 JVD averaged a brilliant 101,6 in demolishing Thomas Keller 5-0. In the last 16 it was Darin Young again, and again Van Dongen beat him, this time 5-3. In the quarter-finals JVD played Jeremiah Millar and beat him 6-1! Into the semi-finals for the first time it was very talented Leonard Gates who averaged 99, but JVD still edged him out 6-5! Into the final Jules lost 4-6 to young talent Seth Steffano but still a brilliant day for the Dutch Dragon.
Finally event 6 was played on sunday. Jules started with a 5-0 win over Jason Yoder and a 5-1 win over Joe Beecroft. In the last 16 JVD played the legendary former World Matchplay Champion Larry Butler on stream! Van Dongen averaged 96,1 and beat the legend 5-1! Third quarter-final in a row and it was a very impressive 6-0 whitewash over America’s number one Danny Lauby Jr. In the semi-finals Jules van Dongen had another massive win, 6-2 over Chuck Puleo while averaging 95,4. In the final JVD lost again, 3-6 to Kevin Luke.
But the best news: thanks to a quarter-final and two finals, despite not having entered the first 3 events of the year, JVD still ended in the CDC Top 8, which means he has qualified for the 2021 CDC Continental Cup of which the winner qualifies for the 2022 PDC US Darts Masters. So let’s hope Jules will make his World Series of Darts debut next year!
