03-10-2021

Wim Blokpoel - This weekend the WDF Organized a darting weekend in Denmark with the Denmark Open and Denmark Masters. There was a lot of Dutch success!

Men -

At the Denmark Open the men didn’t have much success. Early exits for Roemer Mooijman, Richard Veenstra, Jeffrey Sparidaans, Jeffrey de Graaf, Willem Mandigers and Moreno Blom.

However, at the Denmark Masters today most did better! Early exits again for Blom, Mooijman and De Graaf. Jeffrey Sparidaans made the last 32 where he lost 2-4 to Danish Brian Løkken. Dutchman Chris Landman beat Løkken a round later though to make the quarter-finals, as Veenstra and Mandigers also best their Danish opponents to make the last 8. 2020 BDO World Championship quarter-finalist Chris Landman lost to Swedish Ricky Nauman in the last 8, however Mandigers beat Niels-Jørgen Hansen and Veenstra beat WDF Number One Brian Raman as the Dutchmen got into an all Dutch semi-final. Here Veenstra beat Mandigers 5-2 to go to the final. In this final Veenstra played Nauman, unfortunately he got 1-5 down. A matchdart was survived as Veenstra made it 4-5, and even 5-5! In the last leg ‘Flyers’ managed to hold throw as he picked up his first WDF Title since 2019! Congrats to Richard!

Women -

At the Denmark Open 3 Dutch women made the quarter-finals! Unfortunately Priscilla Steenbergen lost here to WDF Ladies number one Deta Hedman. Steenbergen’s girlfriend Aileen de Graaf also lost here, to English Suzanne Smith. Fortunately, WDF number 4 Anca Zijlstra did manage to win against Danish lady Nielsen. In her semi-final Zijlstra took on Suzanne Smith on stage, who she managed to best with a 69 average! In the final it was Zijlstra against Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova. Zijlstra got 4-2 up and then hit a 116-finish to win it in style! A 5-2 win as she picks up the title and qualifies immediately for the 2022 WDF World Championship at Lakeside! She also moves up to the second place in the WDF rankings!

At the Denmark Masters Steenbergen lost early, however Zijlstra and De Graaf made the quarter-finals again! Surprisingly, Zijlstra lost this time, to English Jo Rolls. De Graaf however got revenge and beat Suzanne Smith this time! In her semi-final De Graaf also managed to beat Rolls to go to the final! Here she faced WDF number one Deta Hedman. Unfortunately, Deta was too strong as De Graaf lost 2-5 and Hedman picked up her 217th WDF title!! Still a very good weekend for the Dutch ladies though.

Youth -

And finally: the youth. At the Denmark Open, 15-year old Dutch boy Tinus van Tiel managed to reach the final where he played Denmark’s Nicolai Jørgensen. In this final van Tiel averaged 71,5 as he beats Jørgensen 4-1 to win the title! Very impressive!

A day later at the Denmark Masters Van Tiel reached the final again. And again it is against Jørgensen. This time Van Tiel loses 0-4 but still a great weekend for Van Tiel who wins one event and makes 2 finals!
