Semi-finals at World Youth Championship for Nentjes and Doets

28-11-2021

Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2021 World Youth Championship was played. 6 Dutchmen were involved in the field of 32 players. In the group stage, 3 of them went through their groups: Uitgeest’ Niels Zonneveld, Urk’s Geert Nentjes and Almere’s Kevin Doets. Maikel Verberk, Owen Roelofs and Jurjen van der Velde did lose in their groups.

In the last 16 Zonneveld got whitewashed 0-5 by Ted Evetts. Nentjes did manage to win, as he averaged 101 in a 5-2 win against Liam Meek! Doets even played better: an average of 104 saw him beat defending champion Bradley Brooks 5-3! In the quarter-finals Doets comfortably won 5-1 against Austrian Rusty-Jake Rodriguez, while Nentjes also won, 5-3 against JDC World Champion Keane Barry. In the semi’s Nentjes did lose though, 3-5 to Nathan Rafferty. And Doets also lost, 1-5 to Evetts. Just like last year 2 Dutch semi-finalist, and again both lost so unfortunately again none on the main stage, following the footsteps of Michael van Gerwen and Berry van Peer. Hopefully next year!
