Semi-Final for Roelofs at Development Tour
Wim Blokpoel - Today a weekend of PDC Winmau Development Tour events ended, with event 15 of 2022.
Former JDC World Championship Finalist Owen Roelofs, had a disappointing weekend so far, but that came to an end today. Roelofs beat both Patrick Ehlert and fellow Dutchman Sam Groot Roesink 4-1, to make the last 64 where he also beat Roman Benecky 4-1! In round 4, Roelofs edged out Belgian Robbe Dasseville 4-3 and in the last 16 it was a 4-1 victory over fellow Dutchman Jitse van der Wal. Urk’s Geert Nentjes whitewashed German Jan Hischke 4-0 to make the last 64 where ‘The Spear’ beat Alec Small 4-2. In round 4, Nentjes beat Tavis Dudeney 4-1 and in the last 16 it was a 4-1 victory over fellow Dutchman Gillian Koehoorn. In the quarter-finals, Roelofs and Nentjes played each other! The all Dutch quarter-final was won by Roelofs 5-2, as he averaged 95,2! In the semi-finals, Roelofs lost 1-5 to Owen Bates but what a great run for him!
Before his defeat to Roelofs, Jitse van der Wal had some great wins. He beat Germans Jeremy Jendrzejewski (4-1) and Lukas Holtewert (4-0) to make the last 32. There, Van der Wal also beat Welsh Llew Bevan 4-2. Before his defeat to Nentjes, Gillian Koehoorn also had a good run. He beat Dominik Ortner 4-0 and fellow Dutchman Vinay Ramnath 4-2 to make the last 64. In that Round, Koehoorn faced another Dutchman in Maikel Verberk who he also beat 4-2, and in round 4 it was another 4-2 win over a fellow Dutchman in Sam Coenders!
Daan Bastiaansen beat 2 Germans in Luis Jansen (4-1) and Yannik Greif (4-2) to make the last 32. There, Bastiaansen beat Reece Colley 4-1. However, he lost in the last 16 3-4 to Irish Conor Heneghan. WDF Boys World Champion Bradly Roes started with a 4-2 win over Pascal Essmann and then beat 2 more Germans in Philipp Hagemann and Egor Tvorogov both 4-1 to make the last 32! There, Roes edged out Croatian Filip Ljubenko 4-3 to make the last 16! In that round, Roes lost 2-4 to eventual finalist Bates.
Before his defeat to Koehoorn, Sam Coenders did beat Tobias Hfner 4-3 and Connor Arberry 4-1. Dutch talent Justin van Tergouw started his event with a 4-0 whitewash win over Derek Barry, and then whitewashed Matti Finke 4-0 as well to make the last 64. There, Van Tergouw beat Belgian Raphael Leufgen 4-1 to make round 4 where he lost 0-4 to Nathan Rafferty. An all Dutch first round was won by Jarno Bottenberg 4-2 over Damian Vetjens. In the last 128, Bottenberg then whitewashed Calvin Taron 4-0 and in round 3 it was another 4-0 win over a German in Noah Roeschlein for Bottenberg. In the last 32 though, Bottenberg lost 3-4 to Cameron Crabtree.
Jeffrey Ballast had a bye into round 2, and then won an all Dutch tie against Jamai vn den Herik 4-2. In the last 64, Ballast had a 4-2 win over Keenan Thomas but one round later Ballast lost 3-4 to Northern Irish talent Josh Rock. Tourcard Holder Kevin ‘Hawkeye’ Doets also had a first round bye, and then whitewashed fellow Dutchman Maikel Mossou 4-0! In round 3, Doets beat David Schlichting 4-2 but in the last 32 Doets was edged out 3-4 by eventual winner Keane Barry despite a 98 average.
Other Dutch players who made the last 64 were: Bram Jongejeugd, Joey de Jong, Kevin van der Voort, Tinus van Tiel, Angelo Balsamo, Pim van Bijnen, Jurjen van der Velde, Gian van Veen and Maikel Verberk.
