Semi-Final for Dirk van Duijvenbode at PC16
Wim Blokpoel - Yesterday, the last of 4 more pro tours was played: Players Championship 16. Let’s see how the Dutch players did in it.
Dirk van Duijvenbode, Aubergnius, had a bad day on wednesday, as he lost 0-6 to Kciuk in round 1 then. He immediately recovered from it the day after though, starting with a 6-1 win over Jake Jones. In the last 64 DVD beat fellow Dutchman Ryan de Vreede 6-4. In hie board final, it then was a narrow 6-5 victory against Luke Woodhouse. In round 4 Aubergenius got another win, he beat Premier League champion Jonny Clayton 6-2, and got into the quarter-finals were another tough opponent waited: World Champion and World Number One Gerwyn Price. Van Duijvenbode averaged 100,7 and beat Price 6-5! After this brilliant win, Van Duijvenbode lost 3-7 to Luke Humphries in the semi-finals but still a brilliant day for Dirk, beating Clayton and Price in a row.
The Dutch Destroyer, Vincent van der Voort didn’t have a very nice week so far. Today however, he started with an average of almost 99 in a 6-2 win against Scottish Ryan Murray. On stream in round 2 VVDV’s performance was even better as he averaged 99,7 in edging out Andrew Gilding 6-5. In his board final Van der Voort played Dave Chisnall, and it was another last leg decider, which Van der Voort won again! 6-5! In the last 16 Van der Voort played Gerwyn Price. After missing loads of matchdarts however, this game was lost 5-6 after Price hit a 22-darter in the deciding leg. Very painfull defeat for Van der Voort, but at least a decent run for him in PC16.
Ron ‘The Bomb’ Meulenkamp started with a brilliant performance this day. He averaged almost 102 and won 6-4 against ‘Yozza’ Jamie Hughes. In the last 64 Meulenkamp had an all Dutch game with Raymond van Barneveld, and Meulenkamp beat the five time World Champion RVB 6-2. In round 3 Meulenkamp was another victim of Price, who beat him 6-3 while averaging over 110!
Earlier mentioned Raymond van Barneveld did beat Adam Mould 6-3 before losing to Meulenkamp. And before losing to Van Duijvenbode, Ryan de Vreede got through a tough fight with Peter Jacques 6-5. Lorenzo Pronk finally managed to get his first win of the week, as he beat Aaron Beeney 6-3. In the last 64 Pronk lost 2-6 to eventual champion Peter Wright. 4 more Dutch wins today. Luc Peters caused an upset by beating Chris Dobey 6-5 in the first round, before losing 4-6 to ‘Relentless’ Ryan Joyce. Kevin Doets won 6-3 against Russian Boris Koltsov in the last 128, but then lost 5-6 to Gerwyn Price, which had been done by 3 Dutchmen in this tournament! Geert Nentjes beat Josh Payne with 6-4. A 2-6 loss against Humphries was followed for the talent from Urk though. Final win of today came from Maik Kuivenhoven who ended a great week with a 6-4 win against Australian Gordon Mathers. Kuivenhoven then lost with the same scoreline against Ryan Meikle.
Jermaine Wattimena ended a very poor week by a 4-6 lose against Woodhouse in the first round. Another player who had a poor week was Jeffrey de Zwaan. After reaching round 3 yesterday, he now lost in round 1 for the third time this week, 2-6 against Rob Cross who averaged 103,6. Niels Zonneveld played great in round 1 but still lost 5-6 to German Martin Schindler who produced an averaged of 101,3. Five more first round defeats came from: Berry van Peer (5-6 against Krzysztof Ratajski), Danny Noppert (5-6 against Jon Worsley), Martijn Kleermaker (5-6 against Gary Anderson), Derk Telnekes (1-6 against Krzysztof Kciuk) and Jelle Klaasen (4-6 against Andy Boulton).
