Semi-Final for De Vreede at Challenge Tour 4
Wim Blokpoel - Today the 3rd and 4th PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour events of 2022 were played.
In Challenge Tour 3, Gian van Veen started with two 5-2 wins over Joshua Sinkovits and Darren Johnson. Van Veen then edged out Shaun Carroll 5-4 to make the last 32. In the last 32 GVV averaged 95,1 in a 5-0 whitewash over Ian Lever. In the last 16 he then lost 2-5 to Haupai Puha, but a very good result for the Dutchman.
Jeremy van der Winkel started by beating Tavis Dudeney 5-2, and then beat German David Schlichting 5-1. In round 3 Van der Winkel played Gillian Koehoorn in an all Dutch tie. Van der Winkel won 5-1, before also losing to Puha, 3-5 in the last 32. Owen Roelofs started with a 5-3 win against former tourcard holder Cristo Reyes from Spain, and then edged out another former tourcard holder in Stephen Burton, 5-4. The Dutch talent also beat John Crook 5-4, but in round 4 he got edged out 4-5 by Matthew Edgar himself. Davy Proosten won 5-2 against Charlie Symons, and then beat Irish Martin Heneghan 5-3. In round 3 Proosten beat Michael Burgoine 5-2, but he then lost 4-5 to Graham Hall.
Roemer Mooijman easily beat David Cahill 5-1, and then edged out Gary Eastwood 5-4. In round 3 Mooijman lost 3-5 to Hall. Ryan de Vreede beat Rachel Brooks 5-1, and young talent Jarred Cole 5-3, before losing in the last 64 2-5 against Gary Blades. Gillian Koehoorn impressed with a 5-3 victory against Welsh Mike Warburton, and then won 5-2 against Jason Wilson, before losing to Van der Winkel. Jeroen Mioch edged our Andrew Hyland 5-4, and then Sam Cankett 5-3, In the last 64 Mioch lost 2-5 to Lever. Martijn Dragt also won 2 games: 5-4 against Aaron Beeney, and 5-1 against Sean Ross. Dragt then lost 4-5 to Welsh Barrie Bates.
Erik Meulenmeesters, Danny van Trijp and Patrick van den Bogaard all managed to make round 2 of Challenge Tour 3.
In Challenge Tour 4, Ryan de Vreede started great again. He won 5-3 against Michael Huntley, and edged out Finnish Marko Kantele 5-4. Two more 5-4 wins against Kelvin Hart and Gillian Koehoorn. In the last 16 it was another victory against a Dutchman: 5-2 against Owen Roelofs. Into the quarter-finals De Vreede beat Roman Benecky 5-4 to go in the semi-finals!! Here he unfortunately lost 2-5 to Pete Burgoyne. Jeremy van der Winkel had another great run, he first beat Alex Clyburn 5-2 and Jordan Joyce 5-1. Another win over a Jordan: 5-4 against Jordan Brooks followed, and in the last 32 Van der Winkel edged out Toni Alcinas 5-4 as well. In the last 16 he averaged 96,4 in a 5-0 whitewash against Stephen Burton! In the quarters, Van der Winkel lost 2-5 to Burgoyne. Berry’s brother Carlo van Peer started with a 5-4 win against Luke Yates, and then a 5-2 win against Daniel Todd. In round 3 Van Peer beat Martin Heneghan 5-4, and then Darryl Pigrim 5-2. In the last 16 Van Peer had an impressive victory over Nick Kenny, 5-4 after being 1-4 down and averaging 8 points lower in the end. In the last 8 Van Peer lost 4-5 to Gavin Carlin, but still a very good day from Carlo!
As mentioned earlier, Owen Roelofs made the last 16 in event 4. He first beat Mike Warburton 5-4, and then Kyle Richardson and Shaun Thompson both 5-3. In the last 32 Roelofs edged out Patrick van den Bogaard 5-4. Maikel Verberk started with a 5-0 whitewash over Ben Hazel. In round 2 he then beat Charlie Symons 5-3, and then an impressive 5-2 win over 3 time major champion Robert Thornton. In the last 32 Verberk beat fellow Dutchman Martijn Dragt 5-3. In the last 16 Dragt then lost 3-5 to eventual winner Stu Wilson.
Before his defeat, Van den Bogaard beat Daniel Lee, Conor Heneghan and Stuart White all with 5-2. Dragt first beat Kevin Luhr and Stewart Rattray both 5-0, and then Rhys Hayden 5-2. In the last 64 Dragt then beat fellow Dutchman Danny van Trijp 5-1. Before his defeat to De Vreede, Koehoorn beat Gary Blades 5-1, and Petros Christodoulou from Cyprus 5-3. Koehoorn then also beat German Daniel Klose 5-3. Arjan Konterman started with a 5-2 win against ‘The Heart or Darts’ Deta Hedman. He then beat Ian Lever and Kai Fan Leung both 5-3, before losing to Kenny 4-5 in the last 32.
Before his defeat, Danny van Trijp beat Lee Andrews 5-1 with an average of 95,4. He then won 5-2 against Neil MacDougall. Davy Proosten averaged a ton in a 5-0 win over Lee Hunter. Proosten then edged out Simon Stevenson 5-4, before losing to Chris Gilliland 2-5. Sven van Dun also won 2 games, against Jake Carter and Philip van Gasse both 5-1. Van Dun then lost 0-5 to Mark McGeeney.
