Semi- and Quarter-Final for Van der Velde at Development Tour
Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2022 PDC Winmau Development Tour started with the first 2 events. A lot of Dutchmen were involved.
Niels Zonneveld started event 1 with a 4-2 win over Nathan Potter, and then beat fellow Dutchmen Keanu van Velzen 4-1. In the last 64 Zonneveld won 4-1 against German David Schlichting, and in round 4 he averaged a brilliant 104 in a 4-1 win over fellow Dutchman Owen Roelofs. The man from Uitgeest then played Kevin Doets in the last 16 who he edged out 4-3. In the quarter-finals Zonneveld lost 2-5 to Nathan Rafferty but still a very good run.
Jurjen van der Velde started with a 4-1 win over JDC World Champion Bradly Roes. In round 2 he then beat Jack Dickinson 4-1, and in round 3 Van der Velde had a 97 average for a 4-2 win against Sean Cummings. In the last 32 Van der Velde averaged a brilliant 103,3 to brat Joshua Richardson 4-1! In the last 16 he played amazing for the third game in a row, as he averageed 96 and beat Rusty-Jake Rodriguez 4-2 despite the Austrian averaging 101. In the last 8 Van der Velde also lost, 3-5 to Christopher Holt.
Before his defeat, Doets had 4 wins, respecively over Leighton Calder, Jack Rumney, Tomas Houdek and Connor Hopkins. In that last win Doets averaged 97,6! Before his defeat, Roelofs beat Zac Griffiths 4-1, and Alfie Thompson with the same scoreline. Urk’s Geert Nentjes started with an incredible win! He averaged 120,4!!!!! He beat Dean Fitch Jnr 4-0 with it, and then a round later Liam Fisher 4-0 as well. In round 3 Nentjes averaged 101 as he edged out Jarred Cole 4-3. In the last 32 Nentjes lost 1-4 to Rafferty.
Youri Brouwer also had a win, 4-3 over Gibraltar’s Craig Galliano, before he lost to Killian Heffernan 2-4 in the last 64. Sam Coenders edged out Damian Moore 4-3, before beating Thomas Heggie 4-2. In round 3 Coenders lost 0-4, also to Rafferty.
In event 2 Jurjen van der Velde had another massive run! He first beat Valdemar Andersen 4-0, and then edged out Bob Houghton 4-3. In the last 64 Van der Velde beat Lukas Immanuel Jensen 4-2, and a round later Ciaran Teehan 4-0! Into the last 16, he played Fred Box who he beat 4-1, and in the quarter-finals it was Tomas Houdek who he beat 5-1. In the semi-finals, Van der Velde lost 3-5 to Irish Conor Heneghan.
Zonneveld also had a second great run. He edged out Liam Blakely 4-3, and then beat German Joshua Hermann 4-1. In the last 64 Zonneveld beat Nathan Girvan 4-3, and a round later he averaged 111,3 (!!!) in a 4-0 win over Sam Cromwell. In the last 16 Zonneveld beat Jacob Gwynne also 4-0, before losing to Heneghan himself, 3-4 in the last 8.
In event 2 Roelofs beat Philip Want 4-0 in round 1, and then Jack Sargeant 4-2. In the last 64 Roelofs had a 4-2 win over German Fabian Schmutzler, and then edged out Gillian Koehoorn 4-3. In the last 16 Roelofs lost 0-4 by Dom Taylor who averaged over a ton. Before his defeat, Koehoorn beat Luke Faulkner and Nathan Rafferty both 4-1!
Damian Mol edged out Derek Barry 4-3, and then Adam Gawlas 4-1! In the last 64 Mol beat Irish Katie Sheldon 4-1, but then lost against another Irish in Dylan Slevin 3-4. JDC World Champ Bradly Roes first beat Scottish Gary Steven 4-2, and then Joe Weldon 4-0. In round 3 Doets beat Jack Dickinson 4-2, and then in the last 32 he lost 1-4 to Owen Maiden.
Maikel Verberk beat Jimmy Bristow 4-2, and then Welsh Ieuan Halsall 4-0, before he lost to Taylor 3-4. Geert Nentjes beat 2 Scotsmen in Craig Smith and Scot Heggie, befor he lost to Slevin 2-4 in the last 64. Damian Vetjens beat Dylan Tuite 4-2, and Joe Higgins 4-1 before he lost to Box, 2-4. Mark Tabak beat Brian Fletcher and Nathan Potter both 4-2, before losing to Teehan 3-4. And finally, Keanu van Velzen beat Jamie Flint 4-0, and Daniel Thorne 4-1 before losing to Conor Heneghan 2-4.
