Scholten loses in round 1 Seniors Masters

30-05-2022

Wim Blokpoel - Last weekend the very first World Seniors Masters was played at the Lakeside. The only Dutch participant, was former UK Open Champion Roland Scholten.

Scholten took on a qualifier in round 1: former European Championship Finalist Wayne Jones. The game was played in set system: best of 3 legs to win a set, and best of 7 sets. Jones comfortably won the first set, but Scholten then won a set 2-0 in legs himself to level at 1-1. Set 3 went to a deciding leg, which Jones impressively won in 15 darts, and in set 4 it was Jones who won the last leg again. At 1-3 down, Scholten had to fight back but it was Jones who had the best leg of the match in 13 darts. Scholten did throw a 15-darter then, but once again ‘The Tripod’ lost the last leg of the set, as it was a 1-4 defeat.

(A big report of the Dutch Darts Championship will arrive later this week).
