Quarter-Finals for Trouwborst and De Graaf at Woman Series

Wim Blokpoel - This sunday, the PDC Woman Series continued with events 7 and 8 of 2022.

In event 7, 51-year-old Astrid Trouwborst started well with a 4-1 win over Tina Neylon. Sharon Straatsma-Pul also had a first round win as she edged out Michelle Andrews 4-3, and Lerena Rietbergen won an all Dutch first round 4-0 against Lincy Gloudemans. In fact it were even two Dutch first round ties, Marjolein Noijens won the other one as she beat Evelien van Tol 4-2. Anneke Kuijten did lose in the last 128, 2-4 to Rebecca Hoyland. Priscilla Steenbergen however, had an impressive 4-0 win over Crissy Manley. 

Aileen de Graaf started in the last 64, and there she had a tough batte but just managed to overcame Danielle Fry 4-3, while Trouwborst beat Abi Jurd 4-2. Straatsma-Pul also had a second round victory: 4-1 over Courtney Hine, the daughter of ‘Muffin Man’ Steve Hine. Rietbergen did lose in round 2, 2-4 to Juliet Findley and Noijens lost by the same scoreline to Helen Ward. Anne Dorrestijn comfortably beat Elaine Chapman 4-0, while Lakeside quarter-finalist Priscilla Steenbergen played on stream and had a great 4-2 victory over Phonsawan Whillis from Thailand. 

In the last 32 De Graaf had another 4-3 win, this time against Samantha Kirton. Trouwborst beat Mandy Smith 4-2 in a great game, but Straatsma-Pul did lose in the last 32 1-4 to Amanda Harwood. Dorrestijn also lost, 1-4 to Welsh Rhian Griffiths and Steenbergen went out in round 3 as well, 2-4 to Lorraine Winstanley making it 2 Dutch ladies in the last 16.

In that last 16, De Graaf lost 0-4 to Mikuru Suzuki who got revenge after her Worlds defeat to ADG as Suzuki averaged 87,1 in this game! Astrid Trouwborst however, did beat Harwood 4-1 to make the quarter-final! In that quarter-final, Trouwborst lost 0-4 to Suzuki herself but still a great result for the experienced Dutch lady!

In event 8, Straatsma-Pul immediately lost 1-4 to Lakeside finalist Kirsty Hutchinson. Lerena Rietbergen did win as she beat Fallon Sherrock’s sister Felicia Blay 4-0! Evelien van Tol lost 1-4 to Corrine Hammond, and Anneke Kuijten lost 0-4 to Irish talent Katie Sheldon. Anne Dorrestijn also went out in the last 128 as she lost 1-4 to Margaret Sutton. Priscilla Steenbergen did win her first game again though, as she beat Grace Ferridge 4-2, and Aileen de Graaf beat Natasha Eaves 4-0. Lincy Gloudemans lost 2-4 to Jans Densley making it just 5 Dutch ladies in the last 64.

Marjolein Noijens did make use of a first round bye, as she won her second round game 4-2 against Fran Elwick to reach the last 32 of a Woman Series event for the first time! Astrid Trouwborst did lose early in this event, 0-4 to Steph Clarke but Rietbergen had an impressive 4-2 win over Maria O’Brien! Steenbergen beat Sara-Jayne Gowens 4-0 and De Graaf beat Wendy Reinstadtler as 4 Dutch ladies got to the last 32.

In round 3, Noijens lost 2-4 to Lorraine Hyde, and Rietbergen lost by the same scoreline to Rhian Griffiths. Steenbergen did win though, 4-2 against Evonne Taylor and De Graaf also made the last 16 as she had a 4-1 win over Danielle Fry. In the last 16, Steenbergen lost 1-4 to Lisa Ashton but De Graaf managed to beat Trina Gulliver 4-2 to make the quarter-finals! In that quarter-final, De Graaf got edged out by Lorraine Winstanley 3-4.

With that run, De Graaf is now 8th on the Woman series order of merit. An important spor, as after the 12th event the top 8 qualifies for the very first Women World Matchplay in Blackpool! These are the Dutch ladies currently in the women series rankings:
