Quarter-Final for Van Duijvenbode at PC17

Wim Blokpoel - Today PDC Players Championship 17 was played in Niedernhausen, Germany.

‘Aubergenius’ Dirk van Duijvenbode was the best Dutch performer in round 1, as he averaged 110 while demolishing Robert Owen 6-0!!! Into the last 64, Van Duijvenbode took on Greece’s John Michael who he beat 6-2, and then in round 3 he averaged 101,7 in another 6-2 win, this time over Joe Murnan. In the last 16, DVD beat Martin Lukeman 6-3 to make the quarter-finals. There, it was a 2-6 defeat on stream to Chris Dobey, despite averaging over 97. Fair to say, Van Duijvenbode is in great form with the World Cup starting tomorrow. 

UK Open Champion Danny Noppert started the day with a very comfortablye 6-0 win over Stu Wilson. In round 2, ‘The Freeze’ then had a 6-3 win over fellow Dutchman Geert Nentjes. In his board final, Noppert did lose 5-6 to Martin Lukeman.

Before his defeat to Noppert, Geert ‘The Spear’ Nentjes did beat Tony Martinez 6-3 with an average of 99,3! ‘Bionic’ Berry van Peer beat Belgian Kenny Neyens 6-3 in round 1, but then lost 2-6 to Steve Beaton. Kevin Doets had a 6-0 whitewash win over Boris Krcmar in the last 128 but lost one round later 2-6 to Brendan Dolan. Maik Kuivenhoven edged out José Justicia 6-5 in round one, but in the last 64 Kuivenhoven was edged out 5-6 himself to Nathan Aspinall on stream. An all Dutch first round stream game was won by Vincent van der Voort 6-2 over Martijn Kleermaker. VVDV then lost in round 2 3-6 to Jim Williams. Challenge Tour player Jeremy van der Winkel finally got his first Pro Tour win, 6-4 over Adam Hunt. Van der Winkel did lose 1-6 to World Champion Peter Wright one round later.

Luc Peters edged out Brett Claydon 6-5 in round 1, but then lost 4-6 to Polish Radek Szaganski. Dutch Darting Legend Raymond van Barneveld started his day with an average of 102,6 and a 6-1 win over Richie Burnett, but then lost 2-6 to Belgian Kim Huybrechts. Damian Mol had a 6-2 win over a struggeling World Champion Glen Durrant, but then lost 3-6 to Lukeman. Jeffrey de Zwaan started with a 6-1 win over Geert de Vos, but lost in round 2 5-6 to Rob Cross despite an average over a ton after he missed matchdarts. Danny van Trijp had a great first round win, 6-2 over ‘Rapid’ Ricky Evans, but lost one round later 2-6 to Keegan Brown on stream. Last Dutch win of the day, is the win from Castricum’s Jimmy Hendriks, 6-5 over Rowby-John Rodriguez. Hendriks then lost, 2-6 to Jonny Clayton who averaged over 108 against him.

Unmentioned first round Dutch defeats came from: Jermaine Wattimena (1-6 to Jim Williams), Niels Zonneveld (5-6 to Martin Schindler), Jelle Klaasen (4-6 to Thibault Tricole), Ron Meulenkamp (4-6 to Shaun Wilkinson), Jules van Dongen (5-6 to Ryan Meikle) and Danny Jansen (3-6 to William O’Connor).
