Quarter-Final for Van Duijvenbode at PC15

Wim Blokpoel - Today PDC Players Championship 15 was played. Without Michaek van Gerwen, but with all other Tourcard Holders, Danny van Trijp and Jeremy van der Winkel.

‘Aubergenius’ Dirk van Duijvenbode, started with a 6-3 win over Danish Vladimir Andersen. In round 2 he also beat Jack Main 6-3, and in his board final Irish Keane Barry with… 6-3 again! Into the last 16 where DVD played on stream, and it was a magnificdnt perofmrance as Van Duijvenbode averaged 108,2 and beat Robert Owen 6-1. Into the quarter-finals, Van Duijvenbode played Callan Rydz. It was another great average: 103,1 but it was not enough to win here, as DVD lost 4-6 to Rydz who averaged 102,7 himself.

Dutch Giant Martijn Kleermaker started edging out World Youth Champion Ted Evetts 6-5, and then averaged 102,3 in a great game against Mervyn King which he won 6-4. In the last 32, Kleermaker beat Darren Webster 6-3. The last 16 was the end for Kleermkaer though, as he lost 4-6 to Northern Irish talent Josh Rock who averaged 101,6.

Five time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld had not won a game so far this week, but that changed today! An average of 96,2 saw the Dutch legend comfortably beat Shaun Wilkinson 6-1 to reach the last 64. There, RVB even improved and averaged 99,2 in a 6-4 win over Lithuanian Darius Labanauskas. In round 3, Van Barneveld played on stream against Australian number one Damon Heta, and averaged 97,2 but missed two matchdarts in a decising leg, as Van Barneveld lost 5-6.

After his quarter-final run yesterday, Maik Kuivenhoven started well today as he averaged 101,4 and only edged out Jonathan Worsley 6-5 who almost averaged a ton himself! Kuivenhoven did lose in round 2 today though, 3-6 to Steve West. Vincent van der Voort got a much needed win to keep his Matchplay hopes alive, he comfortably beat Steve Haggerty 6-1, but then lost in the last 64 3-6 to Rock. UK Open Champion Danny Noppert had a convincing 6-2 victory over Africa’s finest Devon Petersen, as he averaged 99,2 but lost in round 2 again, this time 2-6 to Belgian Mario Vandenbogaerde.

An all Dutch first round was won by Niels Zonneveld, 6-4 over Damian Mol with an average of 95,7. Unfortunately Zonneveld got edged out in the last 64 though 5-6 by Maximiser Max Hopp. Last Dutch win of the day came from Urk’s Geert Nentjes and what a win it was! An average of 102,5 saw him edge out fellow Harrows player Luke Woodhouse 6-5 in a high quality affair, although Nentjes lost the next round 3-6 to Keane Barry.

Jeffrey de Zwaan played on stream, and really needed a win but had a difficult draw in Austrian Mensur Suljovic. Suljovic threw amazing and took a 5-2 lead, when De Zwaan got 3 darts for 5-3 but missed, as Suljovic got a 6-2 win while averaging 103. Other Dutch first round defeats came from: Jules van Dongen (4-6 against Rock), Berry van Peer (0-6 against Vandenbogaerde), Kevin Doets (2-6 against Rydz), Jermaine Wattimena (4-6 against Jack Main), Luc Peters (5-6 against Martin Schindler), Jeremy van der Winkel (3-6 against Labanauskas), Danny van Trijp (5-6 against Lewis Williams), Ron Meulenkamp (2-6 against Ryan Meikle), Danny Jansen (1-6 against Ross Montgomery) and Jimmy Hendriks (2-6 against Madars Razma).
