Quarter-final for Kuivenhoven at Players Championship 14
In round 1 there was an all Dutch tie between Maik Kuivenhoven and Luc Peters. It was Kuivenhoven who won it 6-3. In round 2, Kuivenhoven edged out Irish William O’Connor 6-5, and in the last 32 an average of 97,2 resulted in a comfortable 6-1 victory over Peter Hudson. Into the last 16, where Kuivenhoven beat Premier League player and third seed Joe Cullen 6-2! In the quarter-finals, Kuivenhoven lost 4-6 to John O’Shea but still a very good day for Kuivenhoven.
Damian Mol had a great 6-3 win over Irish Steve Lennon, while Urk’s Geert Nentjes averaged 99, beating another Irishman in round 1 in Keane Barry, 6-1. In the last 64, Mol and Nentjes played each other and it was Mol who won it 6-3. In his board final, Mol then lost 3-6 to just another Irishman: eventual finalist John O’Shea.
UK Open Champion Danny Noppert had a brilliant display in round 1 as he averaged 104,7 in a 6-4 win over Scott Williams. However, Noppert did already lose in round 2, 4-6 to Hudson. Almere’s Ron Meulenkamp edged out Darren Webster 6-5 in round 1, but then also lost in fhe last 64 4-6 to Martin Lukeman. Last Dutch win of the day came from Danny van Trijp, who was one of the replacements: he edged out Belgian Maro Vandenbogaerde in the last 128 6-5, but then lost in a last leg decider himself in round 2 to Max Hopp.
9th seed Dirk van Duijvenbode had a very disappointing day, as he already lost in round 1 5-6 to Polish Radek Szaganski. Other Dutch first round defeats came from: Jeffrey de Zwaan (2-6 against Chris Dobey), Niels Zonneveld (0-6 against James Wilson), Danny Jansen (4-6 against Ricky Evans), Jules van Dongen (3-6 against Kim Huybrechts), Jimmy Hendriks (2-6 against Jamie Clark), Berry van Peer (3-6 against Stephen Burton), Raymond van Barneveld (5-6 against Ryan Meikle), Vincent van der Voort (2-6 against Bradley Brooks), Martijn Kleermaker (5-6 against Nathan Aspinall) and Jermaine Wattimena (4-6 against Gordon Mathers).
