Quarter-Final exit against Scotland

12-09-2021

Wim Blokpoel - Today Michael van Gerwen and Dirk van Duijvenbode (Team The Netherlands) took on Scotland: Peter Wright and John Henderson. It was the quarter-finals of the 2021 Cazoo World Cup of Darts. First MVG took on Henderson. Van Gerwen got a very easy 3-0 lead, and at 3-1 hit a 13-darter for a comfortable 4-1 victory and 1 win away from the semi-finals.

Dirk played Peter Wright and got 1-0 up. After missing 3 darts at double, it was 1-1. On 1-1 Dirk had 1 dart at bullseye, and hit it but it felt straight out, as DVD got 1-2 down, how unlucky! A 103-finish from Wright made it 1-3 and it became 1-4 a very unlucky defeat for Aubergenius. In the couple game it was 1-1 when Dirk missed more doubles and The Netherlands got 1-2 down. This became 2-2 and now both DVD and MVG missed darts at double as it got a painful 2-3. In a very tense leg Henderson missed a matchdart and it was 3-3 now. A last leg decider for a place in the semi-finals. Henderson was on 64 and Van Duijvenbode on 60 but Henderson threw first. T8 was hit, and eventually so was D20. The Netherlands are out of the World Cup, a very painful defeat.

But Dutch Darts will be back next week at the Nordic Darts Masters where Michael van Gerwen is still looking for his first title of the year as he takes on Darius Labanauskas in the last 16.
