Q & A April 2021: Piebe-Guido van den Berg

It’s time for another monthly Q & A! For this month we have another Dutch dartsfan, famous because of his amazing songs, mainly about darts, on twitter an instagram. He’s also an ambassador for Autism Awareness in Darts. I’m talking about Piebe-Guido van den Bergh! It’s been a great Q & A, enjoy reading it!
1. How did you start making darts songs? (Sportsman)
I used to make songs for the Finnish ladies football team FC Honka Naiset back in 2018. All of the players loved it. Last year, we got into lockdown and I had to think of things to do to keep myself happy. First I made some songs for my good friend Connor Cain and for an Italian radio station called Radio Bari. And then there was THAT night where José de Sousa won his Euro Tour. From that moment on, a lot of people started to like my songs. I even made it to the RTL7 Darts website and some podcasts! From that moment on, I made more and more songs for dart players because a lot of players liked it including the pros.
2. Why do you like Finland so much? (Wim Blokpoel)
I have been interested in countries, languages and geography since I was 8 years old. Then in 2016, I suddenly started to get interested in Finland. I think it's part of my autism. Autistic people can have an extreme amount of interest in one specifical thing. I think that is one of the reasons why I suddenly got very interested in Finland. I also made a lot of Finnish friends like the players from the football team that I just mentioned or some of the Finnish female rappers. They make great music and they are really nice to me. I think they are quite proud of the fact that they have a huge fan from the Netherlands despite the fact that they are not even popular in Finland and they don't rap in English.
3. Has any dutch player potential to become world number 1 imo apart MvG? (Dartsfan03)
If Dirk van Duijvenbode stays in form then I think he might have a chance. Right now I can't see any other Dutch player having the potential to become world #1 apart from Van Gerwen and Van Duijvenbode. Yes, we've got players like De Zwaan and Wattimena, but it seems to happen too often that they are not good enough to go deep in a tournament.
4. What is your favourite song you made? (Wim Blokpoel)
There are so many songs that I made it's so hard to make a choice! But I think the song for Team Latvia is pretty funny.
5. How important are crowds for you in darts? (Dartsfan03)
Well, not that important, but of course we want to see them back at the darts. It's just not the same without them.
6. Who do you think is the next major champion who hasn't won one already? (Sport_180)
I'm not really sure about that, but surely Michael Smith will win some big things in the future, right?
7. Why are you still an excelsior fan? (Sportsman)
Because it's my club and because their stadium is close to my home. And once you become a true fan, you won't let your team down no matter how bad they're performing. Yes, I'm very negative about them on Twitter very often, but I'll always go to their home games when we're allowed in. They just mean way too much to me to let them go. It would be very silly to leave them and go glory hunting for a different club anyway.
8. Do you think autism is more recognised these days then it was during the time you were at school? (Henry Cheal)
I don't know if autism is more recognised at school these days, but I'm sure it's more recognised in general than it was when I was in school. For example, there was no Twitter with stuff like Autism Awareness in Darts back when I was in school. It seems like it took a little bit longer until I was diagnosed with autism compared to a lot of autistic children these days.
9. How many worlds do you think MVG will win? (Henry Cheal)
I don't think he'll win a lot more world titles but I'm sure he'll win at least one or two more world titles .
10. Can you sing a song for Wim? (Patrick Bus)
Of course I can! I think I might make that happen :)
