Proosten and Van Peer in last 32 of Challenge Tour 5
Wim Blokpoel - Today 2022 PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour 5 was played: the last Challenge Tour of this weekend.
Davy Proosten had some great performances so far this weekend, and started today with a 5-2 win over Neil Macdougall. In round 2 Proosten had an impressive victory over former World Championship finalist Andy Hamilton, as he beat him 5-3. In the last 64 Proosten beat Scottish Darren Armstrong 5-2, but then one round later he lost 1-5 to Keelan Kay who averaged 95,8! After a quarter-final run from Carlo van Peer yesterday, he started well today again. He first beat James Waite (no, not the machine) 5-3, and then both Daniel Lee and Jeroen Mioch with 5-3 as well! In the last 32 CVP lost 3-5 himself to Thomas Lovely, but still an impressive weekend for Berry’s brother.
Yesterday’s semi-finalist Ryan de Vreede started with a 5-0 whitewash against Aaron Ayres. In the last 128 he then beat Gary Stafford 5-2, before being edged out 4-5 in round 3 by Brazilian Diogo Portela after a 4-2 lead. Maikel Verberk first whitewashed Rachel Brooks 5-0, and then had an impressive 5-1 win over Andy Jenkins! He lost in the last 64 as well, 2-5 to Lee Evans. Before his defeat, Jeroen Mioch won against Carl Dockerill and Kai Fan Leung both 5-3. Jelle Klaasen also won some more games, he beat Lewis Pride 5-0, and Steve Haggerty 5-4, but then lost 1-5 to eventual winner Jim McEwan from Scotland. Another point, but former Lakeside World Champion Klaasen will have expected more from this weekend.
In round 1 Martijn Dragt edged out Tom Lonsdale 5-4, before losing 4-5 himself to Cristo Reyes. Danny van Trijp beat Mark Kingdon 5-1, but then lost 3-5 to Reece Robinson in the last 128. Patrick van den Bogaard did manage to win a prelim game 5-0 against Liam Fowkes, but then lost 1-5 to Matthew Dennant in round 1. Sven van Dun, Matthieu de Loos, Jimmy van Schie, Dustin Straver, Jeremy van der Winkel, Roemer Mooijman, Owen Roelofs, Arjan Konterman, Gian van Veen, Erik Meulenmeesters, Marco Custers and Gian van Veen all lost in round 1 as well.
