Netherlands win six nations cup

20-06-2022

Wim Blokpoel - This weekend the WDF Six Nations Cup was played. An unranked event, with 6 nations involved: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and of course… The Netherlands!!

The Dutch men team included Danny van Trijp, Kristiaan de Boer, Patrick van den Bogaard, former JDC World Championship finalist Owen Roelofs and Eurotour quarter-finalist Wesley Plaisier! The women event included Anca Zijlstra, Priscilla Steenbergen and Lerena Rietbergen! The Dutch ladies didn’t have much success, but the Dutch men certainly did! The ladies did make the semi-finals in the team event, but lost to the very strong English team: Lorraine Winstanley, WDF #2 ranked Deta Hedman and World Champion Beau Greaves.

In the singles event, it was an all Dutch semi-final between Wesley Plaisier and Danny van Trijp! It was an amazing game, and it was Plaisier who narrowly won it! In the final he took on England’s Scott Taylor, who Plaisier beat as well as he won the 2022 WDF Six Nations Cup men singles title! In the team event the men also made the semi-finals, where they took on Northern Ireland, including World Champion Neil Duff! The Netherlands went 4-6 down, but won 9 of the last 10 legs to eventually win 13-7! Into the final, they played against England which included Scott Taylor, Luke Littler, Justin Hood, Players Championship winner Scott Williams and WDF #1 ranked James Hurrell. It was a very close game, but it was The Dutch team which managed to win it 13-11!! A great victory, as The Netherlands take both the men singles and men team title!
