Nentjes wins Dutch Development Tour Final
Wim Blokpoel - Today the last PDC Development Tour event of the weekend was played: event 10. And we had an all Dutch final!
Urk’s Geert Nentjes started with a 4-0 win over German Felix Kleeberg, and then edged out fellow Dutchman Daan Bastiaansen 4-3 in round 2. In the last 64, Nentjes played another Dutchman in Maikel Verberk who he beat 4-0. ‘The Spear’ then averaged 100,9 in a 4-2 win over Tomas Houdek! In the last 16, Nentjes played fellow Dutch tourcard holder Kevin’Hawkeye’ Doets, who he edged out 4-3 to make the quarter-finals! There, Nentjes beat Lewy Williams 5-3 to make the semi’s. In the semi’s it was another all Dutch tie, as Nentjes played Gian van Veen. It was a 5-1 win over Van Veen for Nentjes to make the final where he played just another Dutchman!
Jitse van der Wal, started the event with a 4-0 whitewash over Owen Whiteside. In the last 128 and last 64 Van der Wal beat two fellow Dutchmen in Youri Brouwer (4-2) and Joey de Jong (4-0). Into round 4, JVDW edged out Polish Sebastian Bialecki 4-3 to make the quarter-finals. There he played Dom Taylor, who he overcame 5-2! In the semi-finals, Van der Wal beat Gibraltar’s Craig Galliano 5-1 to go into the all Dutch final against Nentjes. It was Nentjes who averaged just over 90 and won 5-1, as he picked up the third Development Tour title of his career!
Before his defeat to Nentjes, Gian van Veen had a great run. He started with two wins over fellow Dutchmen in Robert Kef (4-2) and Jamai van den Herik (4-3), before whitewashing German Marvin Koch 4-0. In the last 32, Van Veen beat another German in Robin Berger 4-2, and in the last 16 it was another Dutchman who he beat: Damian Vetjens (4-0). In the quarter-finals then, it was another German who Van Veen beat as he overcame the very talented Fabian Schmutzler 5-2.
Before his defeat to Van Veen, Damian Vetjens beat Daniel Thomas 4-2 and Conall Doughty 4-0 to make the last 64. There, Vetjens edged out Jurjen van der Velde 4-3! In round 4, Vetjens also best Roman Benecky, 4-0! Before his defeat to Nentjes, Kevin Doets also had a good run. He whitewashed both Leighton Calder and Lennon Cradock 4-0 to make the last 64, where he played Wesley Veenstra. Doets managed to hit a perfect leg, and that nine-darter helped him to beat Veenstra 4-2! One round later, Doets also overcame American Joseph Lynaugh 4-3.
Before his defeat to Van der Wal, Joey de Jong had 2 great wins: he first beat Charlie Manby 4-2, and then edged our Morgan Scott 4-3. Former JDC World Championship finalist Owen Roelofs, beat both Scott Millar and Justin Hewitt 4-1, before also losing in the last 32, 1-4 to Owen Maiden.
Unmentioned Dutch players who made the last 64 were: Niels Zonneveld, Sam Coenders, Vinay Ramnath and Maikel Mossou.
