MVG through to last 16, RVB goes out

Wim Blokpoel - Yesterday the group stage of the 2021 Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts was completed. Michael van Gerwen needed to win 1 leg in his final game against World Cup Champion John Henderson. This leg was won immediately, as MVG took a 2-0 lead. Henderson won leg 3 with a 110-finish, but that was all he could do this game, as MVG got 4-1 up. In leg 6 Van Gerwen was on 125 for the match, as he hit 50, 25, 50!!!! A spectacular way to win his group as MVG is into the last 16. But who does he play?

That would be the winner of 2 time World Champion Gary Anderson against 5 time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld! Anderson immediately broke Barney’s throw, but with an 11-darter RVB broke straight back! Third break in a row for Anderson (12-darter), and a hold for him saw Van Barneveld go 1-3 down despite a 100+ average. He did hit a 92-finish for 2-3 but the Scotsman then made it 2-4. Unfortunately the 104 average from Andersonnsaw him win 5-2 as Van Barneveld goes out. Tomorrow night Michael van Gerwen play his last 16 game against Gary Anderson!!
