MVG starts Premier League with draw

Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2021 Premier League Darts has started. The 10 best darts players in the world play each other in this event, including Dutchman and World Number Two Michael van Gerwen. After a positive covid test for world number one Gerwyn Price, Michael van Gerwen is also the highest ranked participant this year.

MVG started his 2021 Premier League campaign against Belgian Dimitri van den Bergh, the 2020 World Matchplay champion. It was a brilliant start of the match as both players started with a 14-darter, followed by a 12-darter from both of them to make it 2-2. After 4 more legs there still was nothing between the pair of them on 4-4. Another 14-darter from MVG and 13-darter from Van den Bergh and it became 5-5. No more time to make mistakes now, but van Gerwen did make a mistake in leg 11 as he missed 2 darts to get his first point of the 2021 PL. Van den Bergh did break the throw and got 6-5 up. It was looking likely that Van den Bergh would win the match, as he was on 64 in his own leg after 12 darts. However, MVG took out 101 on Double 18 to make ot 6-6, and end it in a draw! Great match, and the first point. Tomorrow another update as MVG takes on World Number three Peter Wright, that should be an amazing match!
