MVG loses to Anderson in night 1 of Premier League

Wim Blokpoel - Last night the 2022 PDC Cazoo Premier League started with a new format and 8 players, including Dutch number one Michael van Gerwen.

MVG started in event 1’s quarter-final against Gary Anderson. Anderson started great, especially on the doubles. He went 4-2 up, but MVG fought back and managed to make it 4-4. However, Van Gerwen followed it with a bad leg as the Scotsman broke him again and Mighty Mike was 4-5 down. In leg 10 the Flying Scotsman took out 76 to win the game 6-4, as MVG is yet to get a point after the first night.

Next week in Liverpool, Van Gerwen plays last night’s winner Peter Wright, who averaged 113 in the final. Fair to say MVG has some work to do!
