Mol and Plaisier through to final stage of 2022 Q-School
Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2022 PDC Q-School Phase 1 started. Already through to final dtage of EU Q-School were the likes of Jelle Klaasen, Derk Telnekes and Kevin Doets. Today a load of Dutchmen tried to reach the same.
Former winner of a Development Tour event Damian Mol, started with a 5-0 win over fellow Dutchman Erik Meulenmeesters. He then averaged 95,5 in a 5-2 win over Belgian Stefaan Henderyck. In the last 32 Mol beat Alex Flohr from Luxembourg 5-1. In the last 16 he then faced Dutch American (and former Dutch Darts Monthly Guest) Jules van Dongen, who he beat 5-2 with an average of 97,4! In his final game Mol played Hungarian Patrik Kovacs. Mol won 5-3 and booked his place into Finals Round which starts wednesday!
Multiple Eurotour participant Wesley Plaisier started with a 5-1 win over Spanish Juan Francisco Rodriguez. Plaisier then went on to average a brilliant 98,8 in a 5-3 win over fellow Dutchman Tonny Veenhof! He followed it by a win over Michael Rasztovits with an average of almost 96. In the last 32 Plaisier edged out Spanish Tony Martinez 5-4, and he then beat Markus Kessler 5-2 to move into his final game. There he played German Kai Gotthardt, and they went into a last leg, where Plaisier hit a 15-darter to win and go through to finals stage as well!
Former Worlds participant Ryan de Vreede started with 2 comfortbale wins over 2 Germans. He then beat fellow Dutchman Tufail Badal 5-3. It was followed by a 5-2 win over German Robin Beger, and a 5-4 win over Belgian Kevin Blomme, after finding himself 0-3 down. In his final game De Vreede lost 2-5 to Thibault Tricole from France, but 4 points basically secure him into finals stage.
An all Dutch first round saw Jeremy van der Winkel beat Danny Jansen 5-1. Van der Winkel then beat Brulinski and Klein, both 5-3. He then beat Berry’s brother Carlo van Peer 5-0, befofe he lost 2-5 to Swedish Andreas Harrysson. But also 4 points for Van der Winkel! Recent PDC Worlds participant Chris Landman also played today. He first edged out Jeroen Mioch 5-4 and then demolished Andy Bless 5-1. Two 5-3 wins over fellow Dutchmen Gijsbert van Malsen and Patrick Peters saw Landman make his final, where he got edged out 4-5 by Mario Vandenbogaerde. But still a great 4 points for the Countryman!
A decent amount of Dutchmen also got 3 important points today. Earlier mentioned Dutch Americen Jules van Dongen beat the likes of Wesley van Trijp and Dragutin Horvat on his way to 3 points, while Patrick Peters (a not so well known name) beat Sebastian Steyer and Jan de Weerdt to reach the last 16. Berry van Peer’s brother Carlo also got 3 points, as did Castricum’s Jimmy Hendriks who had great wins over Owen Roelofs and Pavel Jirkal.
Another surprising name who got 3 points was Max de Jong. Former Lakeside participant Wouter Vaes did the same, as did former tourcard holder Vincent van der Meer from The Hague!
Alexander Merkx gained 2 points by beating fellow Dutchman Willem Mandigers, as did Jamai van den Herik. Big talent Danny van Trijp also gained 2 points. Earlier mentioned De Weerdt and Van Malsen did the same, along with Stefan Schroder who beat fellow Dutchman Jerry Hendriks. Christiaan de Boer and Maikel Verberk also made the last 32, as did Martijn Dragt who impressed with wins over Dennie Olde Kalter and Arsen Ballaj. Finally former top 16 player Benito van de Pas got to 2 points. Big Ben beat former Lakeside World Champ Christian Kist and German Marcel Erba before losing to Kovacs.
