Luc Peters reaches final, Kevin Doets in last 4

16-02-2021

Wim Blokpoel - Today was another day with decent results for Dutch Darts. For the third day in a row we saw a Dutchman in the final. Young talent Luc Peters had a brilliant day. He started with beating Luxembourg’s Steve Wollener 6-0. Next Peters won against 2 fellow Dutchmen: Patrick van den Bogaard (6-2) and Jandirk de Groot (6-2). Into the last 16 Peters averaged a brilliant 96.7 to beat Sebastian Bialecki 6-1. In the Quarter-Finals Peters had his best match as he averaged an astonishing 100.6 to beat fellow Dutchman Benito van de Pas 6-4. It was another 6-4 win against a fellow Dutchman for Peters in the last 4 where he beat Kevin Doets. Into the final Doets lost 2-6 to German talent Florian Hempel, but it’s been a brilliant day for Luc Peters!

As mentioned earlier, Luc Peters beat another Dutchman in the semi-finals: Kevin Doets. The young Dutch talent started with a 6-1 win against Gijsbert van Malsen after which he beat German Ricardo Pietreczko 6-2. In the last 32 Doets produced a 6-3 win against Hungarian Patrick Kóvacs. This was followed by a 6-2 win against fellow Dutchman Jeroen Mioch. In the quarter-finals, Doets produced his best match where he averaged 99.5 to beat fellow Dutchman Vincent van der Meer 6-2, before he lost to Luc Peters. So a very good day for Kevin as well, and 2 more Dutchman in the quarter-finals! Like I mentioned one of them was 2019/2020 Tourcard holder Vincent van der Meer, who lost to Doets. Van der Meer started with a 6-3 win against Kevin Costantini, after which he won 6-4 against Canadian Gary Mawson. In the last 32 Van der Meer faced Rowby-John Rodriguez who he narrowly beat 6-5 with an average of 95.8! Van der Meer booked his place into the last 8 by beating Russian Boris Koltsov 6-4. The final Dutchman in the last 8 was mentioned by me before as well: Benito van de Pas who lost to Peters. Former World Grand Prix quarter-finalist Van de Pas started with a brilliant 97.6 average to demolish Austrian Patrick Tringler 6-1. He then won 6-2 against German Kai Gotthardt and 6-2 as well to beat Italian Daniele Petri. Van de Pas got his third 6-2 win in a row in the last 16 to beat German Jens Ziegler.

2 more Dutchman reached the last 16 today, earlier mentioned Jeroen Mioch who lost to Doets was one of them. Mioch beat Sergio Krassen 6-4, Philip van Gasse 6-0 and then got a very surprising 6-3 victory against Zoran Lerchbacher in the last 32. Final Dutchman in the last 16 was Niels Zonneveld, who beat Swiss couple Thomas Junghans and Stefan Bellmont 6-5 and 6-4. In the last 32 Zonneveld won 6-2 against fellow Dutchman Lorenzo Pronk, before he lost 2-6 to eventual champion Florian Hempel in the last 16. Looking on the order of merit, tomorrow will be a huge day for the Dutch players. Despite a first round lose today, RVB is still 4th on the order of merit, although he might need another point to secure his tourcard and make his comeback tomorrow. Number 6, 7 and 8 on the order of merit, who are going strong but still need a good last day, are all Dutch as well! It are today’s finalist Luc Peters, Niels Zonneveld and Lorenzo Pronk. Tomorrow is very important for their career. Just behind them, on place 9, 10 and 11, are 3 more Dutchman! Kevin Doets, Gino Vos and Richard Veenstra, so those 6 are gonna battle for their tourcards tomorrow, and we hope that some of them will get their card! The final update will arrive tomorrow evening!
