30-04-2022

Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2022 PDC Woman Series continued with event 5 and 6. Some very great Dutch players in it, however not with the best results.

In event 5 Sharon Straatsma-Pul enjoyed her woman series debut, as she won 4-2 against Lyn Marsden in round 1. Evelien van Tol did lose, 1-4 to Irish Katie Sheldon, and in her woman series debut, Lakeside participant Marjolein Noijens also lost immediately, 0-4 to Corrine Hammond. Astrid Trouwborst however, won 4-0 in the last 128 against Vikki Tasker. Lakeside quarter-finalist Priscilla Steenbergen also started well with a 4-2 win over Lindsey Ashton, Lisa’s daughter. Anneke Kuijten lost 0-4 to Lorraine Winstanley, but Lerena Rietbergen won her first round game 4-0 over Joanne Senior. Aileen de Graaf had a tough first round, but did manage to edge out Felicia Blay, Fallon Sherrock’s sister, 4-3 with a 16-darter in the decider.

In the last 64 Straatsma-Pul continued a great debut with a 4-3 win over Rachel Bird. Lincy Gloudemans had a bye into round 2, but lost 1-4 to Lorraine Hyde. An all Dutch second round was won 4-1 by Priscilla Steenbergen over Astrid Trouwborst, while Anne Dorrestijn edged out Alex Howard 4-3. Dutch talent Lerena Rietbergen continued with a 4-2 win over Evonne Taylor, but De Graaf surprisingly lost in round 2, 2-4 to Amanda Harwood.

In the last 32, Sharon Straatsma-Pul’s dream debut came to an end as she lost 2-4 to Laura Turner. Steenbergen also lost, 1-4 to Rhian Griffiths as did Dorrestijn by the same scoreline against Rachel Brooks. Lerena Rietbergen was the last Dutch standing, and did win: 4-2 against Donna-Maria Rainsley! In the last 16 Rietbergen had a great average of 84,4 but still lost 2-4 to eventual winner Trina Gulliver. Still a great tournament for Rietbergen though!

Event 6 didn’t go well for Anne Dorrestijn: she immediately lost 2-4 to Lakeside finalist Kirsty Hutchinson. Anneke Kuijten also lost in round 1: 1-4 against Robyn Byrne. Marjolein Noijens is yet to win a leg in the woman series, as she surprisingly lost 0-4 to Carla Boyes in the last 128. Lerena Rietbergen did it for the Dutch again, as she had a hard fought first round win over Rhian Griffiths, 4-3. Evelien van Tol also had a first round win, 4-1 over Gillian Rumney, as had Sharon Straatsma-Pul: 4-0 against Lorraine Green. Lincy Gloudemans lost 0-4 to Corrine Hammond but Priscilla Steenbergen did win her last 128 game 4-0 over Hayley Brant.

In the last 64 Rietbergen caused a massive upset as she edged out Woman Series number 2 Fallon Sherrock 4-3 with an average of 79,6! What a day for Rietbergen! Van Tol did lose in round 2, 3-4 to Chloe O’Brien and Straatsma-Pul also lost in a last leg, to Kirsty Chubb. Astrid Trouwborst lost 2-4 to Laura Turner, but Aileen de Graaf did win 4-3 against Juliet Findley. Priscilla Steenbergen made it 3 Dutch ladies in round 3 as she won 4-2 against Welsh Rhian O’Sullivan.

In the last 32 Rietbergen was edged out 3-4 by Swedish Vicky Pruim. De Graaf also lost, 2-4 to Hammond and Steenbergen lost 1-4 to Samantha Kirton making it 0 Dutch ladies in the last 6 unfourtnately. But tomorrow is a new day, with 2 more Woman Series events and at the moment, De Graaf and Rietbergen are still in striking distance of the top 8 which will qualify for the very first Woman World Matchplay after 12 events.
