Landman beats Veenstra in all Dutch final in Italy

Wim Blokpoel - Today in Italy, another WDF event was played: the Italian Open. Again, fhere was Dutch success.

Roemer Mooijman lost in the last 32, ending his WDF World Championship hopes. Richard Veenstra and Chris Landman did make the last 16. There Veenstra beat Italian Stefano Tomassetti, while Landman beat Englishman Dave Prins. In the quarter-finals Veenstra, just like yesterday, beat Carles Arola from Spain. Landman had an impressive win over former World Championship semi-finalist Mario Vandenbogaerde. 2 Dutchmen in the semi-finals, as Veenstra played Martin Marti Santamaria from Catalonia.. And for the second day in a row he managed to win his semi-final, making it back to back finals! Landman beat WDF number 6 James Hurrell to make it an all Dutch final! In this final Landman comfortably beat Veenstra 5-2, a good preparation for his PDC World Championship Debut!

At the ladies event Priscilla Steenbergen lost in the last 16, as her WDF World Championship hopes also ended. Aileen de Graaf did make the quarter-finals where she beat Chiara Sarnari. In the semi-finals De Graaf beat Australian Corrine Hammond 4-2 to reach the final! Just like Steenbergen yesterday, De Graaf lost the final to Maria O’Brien. 

With 2 Dutch ladies making a final, and 2 Dutch men winning the events, one in an all Dutch final it was a very succesful weekend in Italy for the Dutch players!
