Kuivenhoven and Zonneveld qualify for World Series Finals
Wim Blokpoel - Tonight the last 4 qualifiers were played for the 2021 Jack’s Casino World Series of Darts Finals in Afas Live, Amsterdam.
With already 5 Dutchmen in the field this was a perfect chance to make that more. And Maik Kuivenhoven started amazing, beating two time major champion Daryl Gurney 5-1. In round 2 it was Greece’s John Michael, who Kuivenhoven edged out 5-4. 2 wins away from the WSODF and Kuivenhoven played Chris Dobey. Dobey averaged 104,3 however, he lost! As Kuivenhoven averaged 104,1 and beat Dobey 5-1!! In his final game Kuivenhoven played ‘Relentless’ Ryan Joyce. Joyce wasn’t very relentless today, as Kuivenhoven edged him out 5-4 averaging 101,3!! So Maik Kuivenhoven will make his World Series debut in Amsterdam!!!!
Uitgeest's Niels Zonneveld also had a fabulous start of the evening as he had a 5-2 victory over German Max Hopp. An average of almost 99 saw the Dutchman then beat Jonathan Worsley 5-4. An all Dutch clash between Zonneveld and Derk Telnekes was won by Zonneveld quite comfortably 5-1. 2 wins away as Zonneveld played Mickey Mansell. Mansell averaged an astonishing 106, and still lost as Zonneveld averaged 107,6 (!!!!!!) and won 5-3!! Another Northern Irishman waited in the final game as Zonneveld took on Brendan Dolan. An average of 96,2 was enough for Niels Zonneveld to win 5-3 and make his World Series debut in Amsterdam as well!
The last 2 spots for this tournament were for Mervyn King, who will surprisingly enough also make his World Series debut, and Belgian Kim Huybrechts who beat 5 time world champ Raymond van Barneveld and 2 time world champ Adrian Lewis on his way to a second World Series Finals appearence. So 7 Dutch players in a field of 24, bring it on!
But first 4 super series this week, followed by the WDF Welsh Classic and Welsh Open (with hopefully more Dutch succes than in the British ones last weekend).
