Kevin Doets wins Development Tour 4
Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2022 PDC Winmau Development Tour continued with event 3 and 4.
In event 3, Owen Roelofs and Niels Zonneveld played each other in round 1! It was Roelofs who won it 4-3, and then in round 2 Roelofs averaged an astonishing 109,3 in a 4-0 win over Dimitri’s brother Xanti van den Bergh! In the last 64 Roelofs beat Owen Bates 4-1, but in round 4 he lost 3-4 to German Tom Heldt. Urk’s Geert Nentjes started by edging out Gibraltar’s Craig Galliano 4-3. He then averaged 95,4 in a 4-0 win over Matthew Holmes, and in round 3 beat Coby Jones-Swanson 4-1. In the last 32 Nentjes lost 1-4 to Irish talent Keane Barry.
Mark Tabak started with a 4-1 win over German Till Stein, and then beat fellow Dutchman Youri Brouwer 4-3. In the last 64 he also beat Oliver King 4-3, but then lost in round 4, 2-4 to Keenan Thomas. Jurjen van der Velde started with 2 easy 4-0 wins over Lawrence Wray and Chris Birch. In round 3 he then averaged 95,9 in a 4-3 win over Kieron Robinson. He then also lost in the last 32, 1-4 to Nathan Rafferty. Maikel Verberk started with a 4-2 win against Welsh Riley Rees-Tucker, and then beat both Jake Neale and Scott Smith 4-0. In round 4 Verberk lost 2-4 to Sam Cromwell.
Vinaj Ramnath also won 2 games. First he won 4-1 against Jorth Bollen, and then with the same scoreline over Bradly Roes. In round 3 he lost 3-4 to Heldt. Damian Vetjens started with a 4-1 win over Luke Rutter. In the last 128 he then beat Robbie Chalmers 4-0, but in round 3 he lost 2-4 to Bradley Brooks. Kevin Doets averaged almost 96 in round 1 as he beat Ieuan Halsall 4-1, and then edged out Nathan Girvan 4-3. In the last 64 Doets lost, 2-4 to Sam Cromwell. Wesley Veenstra started with a 4-1 win over Baillie Edwards. In round 2 he edged out Leighton Calder 4-3, but then he lost 0-4 to Leighton Bennett.
In event 4 Doets started with a 4-0 win over Devan Corcoran, and then he beat JDC World Champion Bradly Roes 4-1. He then also beat Jack Vincent and Coby Jones-Swanson 4-1. Into the last 16, Doets also beat Dom Taylor with 4-1! In the quarter-finals Doets averaged 100,5 in a 5-3 win over Lewis Williams! Into the semi’s, Doets averaged almost 96, in another 5-3 win now over Jarred Cole. Into the final, and Doets played event 3 winner Josh Rock. A 95 average, saw Doets win 5-3 again! He now won Development Tour 4, which is the 3rd Development Tour title for the Tourcard Holder.
Uitgeest’s Niels Zonneveld started event 4 with a 4-1 win over Keaton Haddock, and then brat Jack Dickinson 4-2. In the last 64 Zonneveld averaged 102,7 in a 4-1 win over Jake Neale! In round 4 Zonneveld even improved with an average of 104,2 as he beat fellow Dutchman Gillian Koehoorn 4-1. Into the last 16, where Zonneveld also won 4-1 now against Roman Benecky. In the quarter-finals he then lost 1-5 to Rock.
Former JDC World Champion Jurjen van der Velde started edging out German talent Fabian Schmutzler 4-3, and then he beat Matthew Holmes 4-0. In the last 64 JVDV beat Jimmy Bristow 4-2, and he then beat Keelan Kay 4-2 as well. In the last 16, Van der Velde lost 3-4 to Irish Keane Barry.
Before his defeats, Koehoorn first beat Scott Smith 4-1, and then Belgian Viani van den Bergh 4-2. In round 3 Koehoorn then edged out Robbie Chalmers 4-3. Joey de Jong edged out both Fred Box and David Schlichting, before losing 0-4 to Benecky. Youri Brouwer beat both Joseph Pratt and Seppe Giebens 4-2, and then fellow Dutchman Mark Tabak 4-1. In the last 32 Brouwer then lost 2-4 to Welshman Cavan Phillips. Moreno Blom started with a 4-3 win over Joshua Lloyd, and then beat Thomas Turner 4-2. In round 3 Blom beat Lewis Gurney 4-3, but then lost in the last 32 2-4 to Cromwell.
Before his defeat, Mark Tabak beat both Charlie Cookson and Sean McKeon 4-0. Vinaj Ramnath started with a 4-1 win over Connor Pickett, and then edged out Tom Wilson 4-3, before losing 3-4 to Cromwell in the last 64. Damian Vetjens beat both Llew Bevan and Kieran Peek 4-1, but then lost 3-4 to Alec Small in round 3. Tourcard holder Damian Mol beat Harry Kelly 4-1, and then Brynmor Thomas 4-0, before he lost 2-4 to Bradley Brooks. Sam Coenders edged out Lewis Coates 4-3, before beating Till Stein 4-2. He then lost 1-4 to Jones-Swanson. Finally, Maikel Verberk beat Baillie Edwards 4-1, and Irish Adam Dee 4-3, before losing 3+4 himself to Jarred Cole.
