Geert Nentjes wins Development Tour 13

Wim Blokpoel - This saturday the 2022 PDC Winmau Development Tour continued with events 13 and 14!

Event 13

Urk’s Geert Nentjes started with a 4-0 whitewash over Soren Duvel, and then had an impressive 4-2 win over Josh Rock! In round 3, Nentjes beat Dimitri’s brother Xanti van den Bergh 4-1 and in the last 32 he had a 4-1 win over Jim Moston. Into the last 16, where Nentjes edged out Irish Conor Heneghan 4-3, and in the quarter-finals ‘The Spear’ avwraged 98,6 in a great 5-3 win over Bradley Brooks. In the semi-finals, Nentjes played Jarred Cole who he beat 5-2 to go into the final! There he took on German Niko Springer who he beat 5-1 to pick up his 4th Development Tour title, and already his second in 2022! Another big step towards Nentjes World Championship race, where the Development Tour top 2 qualifies for!

Jurjen van der Velde started off with a 4-0 whitewash over Jannik Kayadelen, and then beat Cavain Phillips 4-1. In the last 64, JVDV beat fellow Dutchman Meinte Hibma 4-1, and a round later it was another Dutch win over Mike Verschuur, 4-0 with an average of 103,7!! In the last 16, Van der Velde beat a third Dutchman in a row, in Kevin Doets: 4-0 as well! This time it was an even better average, 107,4 for the Dutch talent! In the quarter-finals Van der Velde beat Lewis Gurney 5-2, but in the semi’s it was a 4-5 defeat to Springer. Before his defeat, Kevin Doets did have some good wins. He whitewashed Mavi Nitsch 4-0, and then had a 4-2 win over Scottish talent Nathan Girvan. In the last 32, Doets edged out fellow Dutchman Danny Jansen 4-3. 

Gian van Veen started event 13 with a bye, and then beat both Harry Jackson and Christopher Holt 4-1! In the last 32, Van Veen beat WDF Boys World Champion Bradly Roes 4-2, but in the last 16 Van Veen was edged out 3-4 by Cole. Maikel Verberk beat Germans Till Stein and Finn Chudziak both 4-2. In round 3, Verberk saw off Mikey Rees 4-2 as well and in the last 32 it was a 4-1 win over Luca Schurig. In the last 16, Verberk lost 2-4 to German talent David Schlichting.

Before his defeat to Van Veen, Jansen did have 2 victories! He first beat Lukas Immanuel Jensen 4-0, and then fellow Dutchman Joey de Jong in the last 64. Befofe his defeat to Van der Velde, Mike Verschuur also won games: he whitewashed 2 Germans in Sara Schliemann and Noah Roeschlein 4-0, and beat another German in Pascal Essmann 4-1. Before his defeats to Doets, Danny Jansen also had some wins, as he whitewashed 3 Germans: Paul Buechner, Jarod Becker and Dominik Nebe. Youri Brouwer, beat Marvin Grossmann 4-1 and then edged out fellow Dutchie Pim van Bijnen 4-3 in the last 128. Brouwer then beat Connor Arberry 4-0, but lost 1-4 to Heneghan in the last 32.

Gillian Koehoorn edged out Justin van Tergouw 4-3 in an all Dutch first round, and then one round later beat Dominik Gruellich 4-2. Another 4-2 win over a German player in Leon Remde saw Koehoorn make the last 32, but there he lost 1-4 to Gurney. Jarno Bottenberg beat Germans Oliver Ufer and Tom Heldt respectively 4-0 and 4-1, and then whitewashed Jack Vincent 4-0 to make the last 32 where Bottenberg lost 2-4 to Owen Maiden. Gijsbert van Malsen beat 3 German players in Moritz Kaschube (4-2), Luis Kirschenlohr (4-0) and Sebastian Keine (4-2) to make the last 32, where he lost 2-4 to Schlichting.

Other Dutch players who made the last 64 were: Wesley Veenstra, Damian Vetjens, Maikel Mossou, Jitse van der Wal, Bram Jongejeugd, Bram van Dijk and Mark Tabak.

Event 14

In event 14, Daan Bastiaansen started with two 4-2 wins over Lukas Fraulob and Bram Jongejeugd. In the last 32, Bastiaansen then beat Owen Bates 4-1, and one round later it was a 4-1 win over Damian Vetjens in an all Dutch tie. In the quarter-finals, Bastiaansen lost  2-5 to Keane Barry but what a great run from him! Event 13 winner Geert Nentjes continued his winning run, as he beat Anna Votavota 4-0, and Leonard Ingles 4-1 to make round 3 of event 14. There, ‘The Spear’ beat Harry Jackson 4-1, and it was another 4-1 win over Croatian Filip Ljubenko next. In the last 16, Nentjes beat German Keith Paetzold 4-2, but in the quarter-finals Nentjes winning streak finally ended as he lost 2-5 to Bradley Brooks.

Before his defeat to Bastiaansen, Damian Vetjens had a winning streak of 4 games! He beat 3 Germans in Tobias Hafner (4-1), Jeremy Jendrzejewski (4-0) and Erik Hatzky (4-0) to make the last 32, where he also beat fellow Dutchman Joey de Jong 4-2. Jeffrey Ballast beat Germans Andriko Smolinski and Finn Chudziak respectively 4-0 and 4-1 to make round 3, where Ballast impressively beat Lewis Gurney 4-2! In the last 32, Ballast beat Sebastian Keine 4-1, but one round later he was whitewashed 0-4 by another Sebastian: eventual winner Sebastian Bialecki. Maikel Verberk beat Zac Griffiths 4-2, and won a Dutch last 64 game against Jarno Bottenberg 4-1. Verberk then beat German Robin Beger 4-2, but lost in the last 16 to Jarred Cole, 2-4.

Before his defeat to Vetjens, Joey de Jong beat fellow Dutchman Marc Vleghert 4-2, and German Fabian Klos 4-0. De Jong also managed to edge out Justin Hewitt 4-3 in the last 64! Danny Jansen started with two whitewash wins over Robin Weber and Tim Nieborg to make the last 64, where he beat fellow Dutchman Kevin Doets 4-2! In the last 32, Jansen lost 3-4 to German Christopher Toonders. Fransy Kalis had a bye into round 2, and then edged out Florian Flegel 4-3. In the last 64, Kalis caused an enormous upset by beating Czech number one Adam Gawlas 4-2! In round 4, Kalis did lose 1-4 to Nathan Rafferty.

Vinay Ramnath started with a 4-0 whitwash over Sara Schliemann, and then edged out Christopher Holt 4-3 in round 2. In the last 64, Ramnath beat Anton Salge 4-3, but one round later it was a defeat for Ramnath to German Keith Paetzold 2-4. Gian van Veen had a bye into round 2 where he beat fellow Dutch talent Owen Roelofs 4-1! Van Veen then beat Joshua Hermann 4-1 as well to make the last 32, where GVV lost 1-4 to Cole.

Other Dutch players who made the last 64 were: Justin van Tergouw, Angelo Balsamo, Colinn Haverkate and Wesley Veenstra.
