First win for RVB, record average for MVG
Wim Blokpoel - Yesterday night both Dutchmen played their second game at the 2021 Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts. After a 4-5 defeat against Michael Smith, five time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld played Joe Davis.
Davis missed his chance to break the throw immediately, as Barney held and then comfortably broke Davis’ throw as well to go 2-0 up. Still injured Davis couldn’t recover at 3-0 for RVB, and in leg 4 Van Barneveld took out a 121-finish to make it 4-0! It all ended in a 5-0 win for Barney, his first win at the Grand Slam since 2018 when he beat Adam Smith-Neale, and his first win on tv since november 2019 when he beat Glen Durrant in round 3 of the Players Championship Finals! Tomorrow Van Barneveld plays Gary Anderson, and the winner of that game goes through to the last 16!

After a 5-0 win against Lisa Ashton, Dutch number one Michael van Gerwen played Joe Cullen. It started very well as MVG won leg 1 with a 138-finish! An 11-darter followed for 2-0 while Van Gerwen was averaging over 130!! At 3-0 he missed some doubles though as Cullen could make 3-1, before Mighty Mike hit a 10-darter for 4-1! 3 missed matchdsrts made it 4-2 though, but an 11-darter to end saw Van Gerwen win 5-2, and average 115,2!! This is the highest average ever hit at the Grand Slam of Darts, as MVG writes more history in his amazing career! Tomorrow Van Gerwen plays John Henderson, and he only needs to win one more leg to go through to the last 16.
