First ever semi-final for Berry van Peer at PC10

26-04-2021

Wim Blokpoel - After a day with very few Dutch success at PC9, yesterday it was time for PC10. This event had a lot more success for Dutch Darts.

Berry van Peer started today averaging only just over 83, but still won 6-3 against Bradley Brooks. He then went on to beat fellow Dutchman Jelle Klaasen 6-2 to reach his board final. In the last 32 Van Peer caused an enormous upset as he won 6-4 against world number seven Dave Chisnall. Van Peer then went on to beat Roxy-James Rodriguez 6-0 in an enormous display, averaging 102,4. Into the quarter-finals for the first time this year, van Peer faced Irish Steve Lennon. Despite a lower average, van Peer won 6-3. This means Berry was into the semi-finals of a PDC senior tour event for the first time in his career! Berry played Ross Smith who beat him 2-7, but it was still a brilliant day for the man from Roosendaal.

Five time champion of the world Raymond van Barneveld won one of these events a couple of months ago. However, he hasn’t done much since then. Today that changed. RVB started with an all Dutch clash in round 1, which he won 6-1 against Martijn Kleermaker. In round 2 RVB had his best display of the day as he averaged 102 to edge out Jamie Hughes 6-5. In the last 32 it was another 6-5 win, this time against Brendan Dolan. On the stream in the last 16 RVB played Nathan Aspinall. RVB missed 3 matchdarts to win 6-4, and in the last leg Aspinall missed 1 dart to win at the bullseye, as RVB survived 6-5 once again. The quarter-finals were the end for RVB as he surprisingly lost 2-6 to Aaron Beeney but still a good result for the biggest legend of Dutch Darts.

Yesterday’s best Dutchman started absolutely incredible today. Jermaine Wattimena averaged 106 to whitewash Andrew Gilding. The Machine Gun kept shooting as he averaged over 104 in round 2 in a 6-2 victory over German Lukas Wenig. Wattimena went on to win another board final as he edged out Belgian Mike de Decker 6-5. Just like yesterday Wattimena lost on the stream in round 4, he got whitewashed by José de Sousa who averaged 117,1 and hit a 9-darter in the proces.

Maik Kuivenhoven started today winning 6-3 against Super Ted Evetts. In round 2 Kuivenhoven had his best performance as he averaged over 99 to demolish yesterdays finalist Luke Humphries 6-1. In his board final Kuivenhovdn beat the third Englishman in a row, in Adam Hunt: 6-3. The last 16 was the end for Kuivenhoven as well, as he lost 3-6 to Lennon despite averaging almost 4 points higher.

It was a brilliant day as 3 more Dutchmen made their board final. Just like yesterday former Lakeside World Champion Christian Kist did so. 2 6-2 wins against Scott Mitchell and Austrian Michael Rasztovits. Kist then averaged 101,2 in his board final but still lost 4-6 to Rowby-John Rodriguez. Danny Noppert reached his board final for the second time in two days as well. The Freeze beat Chas Barstow 6-2 and Robert Marijanovic 6-3 before averaging almost 99 in a 1-6 defeat to Ross Smith who averaged 105,3. Final Dutchman in a board final was, surprisingly, The Hague’s Vincent van der Meer. He won 6-4 against German Steffen Siepmann and Russian Boris Koltsov before losing 4-6 to William Borland in round 3.

The same Borland gave World Number 3 Michael van Gerwen a disappointing birthday. After MVG beat Lorenzo Pronk 6-2 in round 1, he went on to lose 4-6 to Borland in round 2 who averaged over 104. Luc Peters beat Niels Zonneveld 6-3 in another Dutch clash, before losing to De Sousa. Benito van de Pas averaged over 99 in a brilliant game on the stream to beat African Devon Petersen 6-1. Big Ben then lost 5-6 to Matthew Edgar. Ryan de Vreede produced a shock in the first round as he dumped Daryl Gurney out of the tournament with a 6-2 win. De Vreede then lost 2-6 himself to Hunt. Kevin Doets won another first round Dutch clash, 6-2 against Patrick van den Bogaard, but then got edged out by Chisnall. Before losing to van Peer, Klaasen had a 6-3 win over Ryan Joyce,

2 more Dutch wins: Almere’s Ron Meulenkamp beat ‘The Cube’ René Eidams, before getting whitewashed by Stephen Bunting who also hit a 9-darter. Aubergenius Dirk van Duijvenbode had another disappointing day. He did beat Geert de Vos 6-4, but then lost to another Belgian: Dimitri van den Bergh (2-6)

Other first round Dutch defeats which weren’t mentioned yet were from: Vincent van der Voort (5-6 against De Decker), Gino Vos (3-6 against Chisnall), Davy Proosten (2-6 against Humphries), Derk Telnekes (5-6 against Michal Smejda) and Geert Nentjes (3-6 against Michael Smith).
