Finals for Zijlstra and Van Tiel at Denmark Open

Wim Blokpoel - This saturday the 2022 WDF Denmark Open event was played, with an event for men, women, youth and paradarts players!

Woman

In the woman event, we started with the last 64. Jessica van Vugt lost 0-4 to Donna Gleed, but Vanessa Zuidema won 4-0 over Belgium’s Stefanie Loosen. Veerle Hamelink did lose 0-4, to Hungary’s Krisztina Csombok. Aletta Wajer won, again 4-0, against Dorte Schødts while Jeanine van Gestle lost 2-4 to Sweden’s Susianne Hägvall. In the last 32, Zuidema lost 1-4 to Suzanne Smith. Dutch ladies number 1 Anca Zijlstra did win though, 4-2 over Rosie Brady. Wajer also won her second round game, 4-3 against Emma Næser Thomsen making it 2 Dutch ladies in the last 16. In that last 16, Zijlstra beat Janni M. Larsen 4-3, but Wajer lost 1-4 to Rachna David. Into the quarter-finals, and the defending champion in Denmark won again as Zijlstra beat Csombok 4-2 to make the semi-finals! There Zijlstra edge out Anna Forsmark 4-3, as it was a run to the final! In that final, Zijlstra lost 3-5 to WDF Ladies number 1 Deta Hedman but still a good day for Anca Zijlstra!

Men

In the Denmark Open men event was one particular interesting participant: Former Lakeside World Champion Jelle Klaasen! He started with a comfortbale 4-0 win over Thomas Jensen, but in the last 64 it was one matchdart missed by Klaasen as ‘The Cobra’ lost 3-4 to James Richardson. 3 Dutchmen made the last 32 though: Silko Visser, Moreno Blom and Roemer Mooijman. Mooijman was edged out 3-4 by Sweden’s Dennis Nilsson, and Blom lost 2-4 to Darren Johnson. Visser did win though, and it was an amazing tournament for Silko Visser as he also won his last 16 game to make the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open! In that quarter-final, Visser lost 2-4 to Shaun McDonald.

Youth

In the youth event, Pim van Bijnen, Tinus van Tiel and Quinten de Rijk all played in the last 16. De Rijk lost 0-3 to Marius Bo Nielsen, but Van Bijnen won 3-0 against Danish Sebastian Bech, and Van Tiel beat another Dane in Sebastian Danner Løfgreen 3-1! In the quarter-finals, Van Bijnen beat Mikkel Kimmer Rasmussen 3-0, and Van Tiel edged out Lukas Jensen 3-2 making it an all Dutch semi-final! In the Dutch semi-final, Van Tiel edged out Van Bijnen 4-3 to make the final. Van Tiel did lose that final though, 1-4 to Nikolaj Jørgensen.

Paradarts

In the Paradarts Standing event, Harry de Weerd was the only Dutch participant but lost his first game 0-3 to Flemming Fox. In the wheelchair event, we had 3 Dutch players. Martijn de Jong lost his first game 0-3 to Peter Jakobsen, and fomer Dutch Darts guest Wilco Wassink also lost his last 16 game 0-3, to Jesper Andersen. Chanine Vriezen got a bye into the quarter-finals, but there she also lost 0-3, to eventual winner Serge van Belle from Belgium. 

Tomorrow the party continues, with the Denmark Masters!
