Finals for Klaasen and Van Tiel at Denmark Masters
Wim Blokpoel - After the Denmark Open on saturday, the WDF Denmark Masters was played on sunday, again with some great Dutch runs.
Men
In the men event, Denmark Open quarter-finalist Silko Visser already lost in his first round game, 1-4 to Rasmus Pedersen. A lot of other Dutchmen made the kast 16 though. Dutch Italian Sergio Krassen, and Dutchman Alexander Merkx played each other in the last 16, ans it was Merkx who managed to win it. Moreno Blom had another great run, but lost in fhe last 16 to Martyn Turner. Former Lakeside World Champion Jelle Klaasen did make the quarter-finals though as he beat Nick Kenny.
In the quarter-finals, Merkx also lost to Martyn Turner, but Klaasen managed to win again as he beat Scottish Mark Barilli to make the semi-finals! In the last 4, Klaasen played WDF number 1 James Hurrell, and Klaasen survived 8 matchdarts as he went through 5-4 with both men averaging in the mid-90’s! In the final, Klaasen played another former PDC Tourcard Holder in James Richardson. It was 5-5, and Klaasen was on 75 for thr match but missed ond matchdart on tops as Richardson managed to win it 6-5. Still a big result though for Klaasen in his attempt to make a Lakeside return, after 16 years!
Women
In the women event, Vanessa Zuidema, Jessica van Vugt, Jeanine van Gestle and Veerle Hamerink all lost in round 1. WDF Dutch ladies number 1 Anca Zijlstra had a bye into round 2 though, and Aletta Wajer beat Belgium’s Stefanie Loosen 4-0 making it 2 Dutch ladies in the last 32. In that round, Zijkstra beat Fie Nielsen 4-0, and Wajer edged out Rosie Brady 4-3 to make the last 16. There, Zijlstra lost 3-4 to Donna Gleed though and Wajer also lost, 0-4 to Jo Clements.
Youth
In the youth event Quinten de Rijk lost in round 1, 1-3 to Lukas Jensen. Pim van Bijnen surprisingly also suffered a first round exit, 1-3 to Sebastian Danner Løfgreen. Tinus van Tiel did win his first game, he beat Marius Bo Nielsen 3-1. In the quarter-finals, Van Tiel averaged 85,1 in a 3-0 whitewash of Jemmi Heningsen. In the semi’s, Van Tiel beat Jensen 4-1 and in the final it was a repeat of the Denmark Open final, as Van Tiel took on Danish Nikolaj Jørgensen. And for the second final in a row, it was Van Tiel who lost as Jørgensen beat him 4-1.
Paradarts
It didn’t really go well for the Dutch in the paradarts event. Harry de Weerd lost his first game 1-3 to Tommy Bobby Silver Falk, and Martijn de Jong lost 1-3 to Tina Larsen. Former Dutch Darts Guest Wilco Wassink also lost in round 1, 1-3 to Martin Frank. Chanine Vriezen had the best average from all Dutch players in the event, but she still lost her first game 0-3 to the very talented eventual winner Vincent D’Hondt 0-3.
