Final for Van Veen at Development Tour

Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2022 PDC Winmau Development Tour continued, this time not in England but in Germany!

Event 11

We started today with event 11. Gian van Veen had a pretty easy start, as he beat Jim Moston, Mavi Nitsch and Harry Jackson all 4-0!! Already into the last 32, Van Veen finally dropped a leg as he beat Jarred Cole 4-1. In the last 16, Van Veen had another 4-1 win, now over Jack Male. In the quarter-finals GVV beat Cavan Phillips, and we then got an all Dutch semi-final between Van Veen and Jurjen van der Velde. Van Veen won it 5-3 as he went into the final! There he took on Tourcard Holder Nathan Rafferty. It went into a last leg, but unfortunately Van Veen lost it 4-5. Still a very great result for him though!

Before his defeat to Van Veen in the semi’s, Jurjen van der Velde had a great run. He first beat 2 German players in Jens Stickling and Jonas Aplowski 4-0 and 4-1, and in that last win Van der Velde averaged 102,2! He followed it with a 4-0 whitewash win over Derek Barry, and then beat Tom Heldt 4-2 in the last 32. Another ton plus average saw JVDV beat Conot Heneghan 4-2, and then in the quarter-finals it was a 5-3 win over fellow Dutchman Danny Jansen.

Before that defeat, Jansen also won plenty of games. He first beat another Janssn (German Luis Jansen) 4-1, and then fellow Dutchman Joel Feenstra 4-0. In the last 64 it was a 4-2 win over Christopher Toonders and in round 4 a 4-3 win over Travis Dudney. In the last 16, Jansen beat fellow Dutchman Vinay Ramnath 4-0!

Before that defeat, Vinay Ramnath did beat both Lukas Holtewert and Killian Heffernan 4-0, and then Welsh Keenan Thomas 4-1. Kevin Doets, saw off Marvin Simon 4-0 and then in round 2 edged out fellow tourcard holder Josh Rock 4-3! In the last 32, Doets beat fellow Dutchman Jeffrey Ballast 4-2, but it was a defeat in the last 16 to Keane Barry, 2-4.

Before his defeat, Ballast beat Harry Kelly 4-2, edged out fellow Dutchman Meinte Hibma 4-3 and beat German Marcel Gerdon 4-2. Maikel Mossou whitewashed Dominik Ortner 4-0, and then had a 4-1 win over Wesley Veenstra. In round 3, Mossou beat Leonard Ingles 4-1 but it was a defeat in the last 32, 2-4 to Jack Vincent. Another Maikel (Verberk) also made round 4! After a bye he beat Jan Hischke 4-0, and fellow Dutchman Damian Vetjens 4-1, before losing to Phillips 3-4. Urk’s Geert Nentjes started amazing as he averaged exactly 111 in a 4-1 win over Connor Arberry! A 104 average saw Nentjes then beat Owen Roelofs 4-1, and it was a third ton plus average in a row for ‘The Spear’ as he beat Mark Tabak 4-0 while averaging 109,3! In the last 32 however, a 92 average saw Nentjes lose 2-4 to Conor Heneghan.

Other Dutchmen who reached the last 64 were Sam Coenders, Youri Brouwer, Gijsbert van Malsen, Fransy Kalis, Justin van Tergouw and Bram van Dijk.

Event 12

In event 12, Maikel Mossou started well again. He beat fellow Dutchman Marc Vleghert 4-1, and Marcel Gerdon with the same scoreline. In the last 32, it was a 4-3 win over Jonas Aplowski. A third German in a row, Christopher Toonders, also lost to Mossou, 1-4. In the quarter-finals Mossou lost 1-5 to Dylan Slevin but what a day for the young Dutchman! Jurjen van der Velde also beat 2 Germans in Luis Kirschenlohr and Egor Tvorogov (4-0 and 4-2). In round 3, he then averaged 97,3 in a 4-1 win over Cavan Phillips. In round 4 it was a 4-2 win over fellow Dutchman Maikel Verberk, and in the last 16 Van der Velde beat Sebastian Bialecki with another 97 average 4-0! The quarter-finals was also where JVDV’s tournament ended, as he lost 0-5 to Jarred Cole.

Sam Coenders first had a 4-1 win over Jannik Kayadelen, and then beat Jack Vincent 4-0. In the last 32, Coenders edged out Killian Heffernan but in the last 16 it was a 2-4 defeat to Cole. Before his defeat to Van der Velde, Maikel Verberk whitewashed 3 players! Steffen Thoering, Nic Mueller and Jeremy Brandenburg all lost 0-4 to him! 

Kevin van der Voort, Vincent’s son, also had a great run! After a bye he beat both Kevin Dowling and Pim van Bijnen 4-2, before he lost 3-4 to Cameron Crabtree in the last 32.

Danny Jansen first beat Mike Verschuur 4-2, and then had a 4-2 win over event 11 winner Nathan Rafferty! In round 3, ‘The Mullet’ beat Derek Barry 4-1 but it was a defeat in the last 32 for Jansen, 3-4 to fellow tourcard holder Lewis Williams. Gian van Veen beat Geert Nentjes 4-2 in round 1, tough draw that one! Van Veen then went on to beat Jonathan Pravaneh 4-0 and Vinay Ramnath 4-1 before he lost 1-4 to Bialecki. Lars Fransen also made the last 32, after wins over Anton Salge (4-2), Tomas Rehak (4-0) and David Schlichting (4-1). Fransen then lost in round 4, 2-4 to Nathan Girvan.

Other Dutch players who made the last 64 were: Luc Visser, Joey de Jong, Fransy Kalis, Jarno Bottenberg, Justin van Tergouw, Jitse van der Wal, Kevin Doets, Wesley Veenstra, Oaen Roelofs and Youri Brouwer.
