Final for Van Gerwen in Glasgow

06-05-2022

Wim Blokpoel - Last night the 2022 PDC Cazoo Premier League of Darts continued, in Glasgow, Scotland.

Dutch number one Michael van Gerwen started against Joe Cullen. MVG scored well but missed a load of doubles, although he still took a 5-2 lead. However, Cullen came back all the way to 5-5, when Van Gerwen hit a 14-darter in the deciding leg to get over the line 6-5, with a 98 average but only 6/29 on the doubles!

In his semi-final, Van Gerwen played against Michael Smith. Mighty Mike was 2-4 down, but a 108 finish followed and eventually it was 4-4. 4-4 became 5-5, as Van Gerwen won another decider, this time even in 12 darts! In the final in Glasgow, MVG played against PL number 1 Jonny Clayton. Clayton had a 4-3 lead, and again it were the doubles that cost Van Gerwen, as he missed 4 of them for 4-4, as Clayton took a 5-3 lead and then won the night with a 6-3 victory. That secures Clayton of making the play-offs, and Van Gerwen is still second ranked in the Premier League, but one win next week will probably secure his play-offs spot as well!
