Final for Van der Wal at Development Tour
Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2022 PDC Development Tour continued with 2 more events.
Event 8
Jitse van der Wal started with a 4-1 win over Riley Rees-Tucker and then edged out Thomas Turner 4-3. In the last 64, former Challenge Tour event winner Van der Wal beat Irish Sean Cummings 4-0, and one round later he edged out Alex Jacques 4-3. In the last 16, JVDW averaged 101,9 in a 4-0 whitewash over Dimitri’s brother Viani van den Bergh! Into the quarter-finals, Van der Wal played fellow Dutchman Bram van Dijk and beat him 5-3 to make the semi-finals. There he also beat Polish talent Sebastian Bialecki 5-3! In the final, Van der Wal lost 1-5 to Irish Conor Heneghan.
Before his defeat to Van der Wal, Bram van Dijk first edged out fellow Dutchman Gillian Koehoorn 4-3 and then David Balogh 4-3 as well. In the last 64 Van Dijk beat German Till Stein 4-2, and one round later he beat Roman Benecky 4-2 as well! In the last 16, Van Dijk beat American Joseph Lynaugh 4-0. Urk’s Geert Nentjes started well again, as he averaged 99,4 in a 4-2 win over Gian van Veen, and he followed it with a 4-1 win over Owen Maiden. Nentjes then whitewashed Tadgh Carroll 4-0, and in the last 16 he beat fellow Dutchman Bradly Roes 4-1. In the quarter-finals, Nentjes lost 3-5 to Bialecki.
Before his defeat to Nentjes, WDF Boys World Champion Bradly Roes had some great wins. He first beat Mitchell Leeming 4-1, and then Matthew Pearson 4-0. In the last 64, Roes edged out tourcard holder Lewis Williams 4-3!! In round 4, Roes then followed it with a 4-3 win over Hungarian Gergely Lakatos.
Justin van Tergouw followed his semi-final run in event 7 with a decent result in event 8. He first beat Daniel Andrew Jones 4-0, and then Billy Warriner 4-0 as well. In round 3 Van Tergouw still didn’t drop a leg as he also whitewashed Connor Arberry 4-0, before losing in the last 32 1-4 to Killian Heffernan.
Dutch players who made the last 64 were: Owen Roelofs, Jamai van den Herik, Joey de Jong, Robert Kef, Jurjen van der Velde and Niels Zonneveld.
Event 9
In event 9, event 7 winner Jurjen van der Velde started with 2 wins over Scotsmen: he beat both Leighton Calder (4-0) and Thomas Heggie (4-2). In the last 64, Van der Velde beat Lewis Coyne 4-3, and he followed it with a 4-2 win over Irish Ciaran Teehan. In the last 16, Van der Velde lost 1-4 to Adam Gawlas. Geert ‘The Spear’ Nentjes first best both Josh Brake and Roman Benecky 4-2, and then had a 4-1 win over Nathan Potter. In the last 32, Nentjes beat Bradley Aldous 4-2, but in the last 16 he was edged out 3-4 by Dom Taylor. Niels Zonneveld beat David Balogh 4-1 and Kalem Marsh 4-0, and then in the last 32 he edged out Joshua Richardson 4-3. Zonneveld also lost in the last 16, 0-4 to Gergely Lakatos.
Jitse van der Wal continued where he left after his final in event 8, as he beat Anna Votavota 4-0, Felix Kleeberg 4-0, and Gary Steven… indeed, 4-0 as well! However, Van der Wal did lose in the last 32, 0-4 himself to Welsh Connor Hopkins. Gijsbert van Malsen beat Chris Hallwood 4-0 and then both Scottish Jack McNeilly and fellow Dutchman Mark Tabak 4-2. Van Malsen also lost in the last 32, as he was edged out 3-4 by Christopher Holt.
Dutch players apart from Mark Tabak who also made the last 64 were: Youri Brouwer, Kevin Doets, Colinn Haverkate, Jamai van den Herik, Gillian Koehoorn, Maikel Verberk, Vinay Ramnath and Gian van Veen.
