Final for Jules van Dongen at Q-School

Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2022 PDC Q-School continued with day 2. 

Dutch American Jules van Dongen started with a 6-2 win over Belgian Stefaan Henderyck, ans then he beat German Erik Tautfest 6-3. In the last 32 Van Dongen had an impressive 6-1 win over Austrian Rowby-John Rodriguez. In the last 16 it was a Dutch tie between Van Dongen and Patrick Maat. Van Dongen got 5-2 up, Maat made it 5-5 and missed matchdarts, as Van Dongen won it 6-5. In the quarter-finals it was Van Dongen who was 3-5 down, against another Dutchman in Patrick van den Bogaard. This time JVD won 6-5 again! In the semi’s the ‘Dutch Dragon’ took on German Lukas Wenig. Van Dongen averaged almost 93 in a 6-4 win! 7 points for Van Dongen which is almost certain to give him a tourcard. But he could make it certain in the final where he played Belgian Brian Raman. The WDF number one Raman didn’t start well, and it was Van Dongen who took an early 4-0 lead. However, Raman fought back to 4-4. At 4-4 Van Dongen missed darts at double to take a 5-4 lead, as it was Raman who won that leg and the next one and won his tourcard with a 6-4 win. Still a massive day for Jules van Dongen!

After a first round loss on day 1, Kevin Doets needed to get points today.And he did so, by beating Michael Olstrode 6-1 and Andreas Harrysson 6-0! In the last 32 the Dutch talent averaged 97,8 in another 6-1 win over Polands Sebastián Bialecki. In the last 16 Doets played the number one on the OOM Mario Vandenbogaerde. Doets managed to beat him 6-4! Into the quarter-finals he played German Daniel Klose. Doets got 4-5 down but two 17-darters saw him win 6-5! In the semi’s he then lost to Raman but still a great run for the young Dutchman.

Before his defeat Patrick van den Bogaard beat German Steven Noster 6-3, and then 3 Dutchmen!! Those were Jeroen Mioch (6-5), Gillian Koehoorn (6-4) and Wesley Plaisier (6-5). Castricum’s Jimmy Hendriks started with a 6-0 win against The Hague’s Vincent van der Meer. He then beat 2 more Dutchmen: Jeremy van der Winkel 6-3 and Arjan Konterman 6-5. In the last 16 Hendriks won 6-4 against Andreas Toft Jorgensen, before he lost 2-6 to Wenig in the quarters.

Before losing to Van Dongen, Patrick Maat had 3 great wins. In round 1 he edged out Patrick Peters 6-5, and in round 2 German Michael Hurtz 6-4. In the last 32 Maat edged out Kevin Blomme 6-5 after being 2-4 down. 

Wesley Plaisier also had 3 important wins in his race to a tourcard. In round 1 he had an astonishing display as he averaged 104,9!!! That resulted in a 6-0 whitewash over Luc Peters. In round 2 another good performance: 97,7 average for a 6-3 win against German Fabian Schmutzler. In round 3 Plaisier edged out Dennie Olde Kalter 6-5.

Before that defeat, Olde Kalter whitewashed Austrian Harald Leitinger, and edged out Tom Heldt 6-5 in the second round. And before his defeat, Arjan Konterman won 6-2 against Gian van Veen, and 6-1 against Christian Reiter. Koehoorn won against Danny Jansen and Mario Schulze. Young talent Jurjen van der Velde managed to get his first point wirh a 6-5 win over Davy Proosten, and 6-4 against Belgian Kenny Neyens, before he lost 2-6 to Wenig. Alexander Merkx beat Austrians Michael Rasztovits and Fabian Stutz both 6-3, before he got whitewashed by Spanish Toni Alcinas 0-6. Finally, Ryan de Vreede beat Christian Schmidt 6-2 and Swedish Johan Engström 6-1, before a 4-6 defeat against Karel Sedlácek.
