Davy Proosten through to final stage of Q-school, RVB tops order of merit

09-02-2021

Wim Blokpoel - Today it was time for day 2 of EU Q-school group A. After yesterday saw 3 Dutch players secure their places into the final phase, today saw more of them progressing. Dutchman Davy Proosten, who plays for the Dart Team Venlo but isn’t a very well known name, got through immediately after reaching the last 4 today! Proosten started the day already very impressive when he won 6-2 against former BDO World Championship semi-finalist Michael Unterbuchner with a 92 average. However, in the last 64 he played even better, as he averaged 93 and won 6-3 against another BDO World Championship semi-finalist in Mario Vandenbogaerde. In the last 32 his average dropped, but it didn’t matter as he won quite comfortably 6-3 against Mindaugas Barauskas. Proosten got into the final round after beating Dutch talent Moreno Blom 6-4, and there he had to play German talent Franz Rötzsch. Proosten averaged 85 which was enough for a 6-3 win, and a very much deserved place into the final stage!

However, this wasn’t the only Dutch player through. Our monthly guest FDI told that 3 points on the order of merit will probably be enough to get through to the final stage. Let’s assume 4 is at least enough then, and that means that 5 time world champion Raymond van Barneveld is through as well! RVB has 5 points and with that tops the order of merit, which means he’s safe through. RVB reached the final round today, after beating Kristiaan de Boer with a 100 average, German talent Nico Kurz with a 95 average and Jeffrey van Egdom with a stunning 101 average! In his final match RVB lost 4-6 to Austrian Michael Rasztovitz but that doesn’t matter anymore as he’a through anyway. Earlier mentioned Dutch talent Moreno Blom is on 4 points as well, which is enough to get into the final stage so that’s the third Dutchman for today. Blom reached the last 16 for the second day in a row where he lost to earlier mentioned Davy Proosten. If 3 points will indeed be enough, that means also Eimardo van Engelen has enough points, as he reached the final round today after beating the likes of Pero Ljubic and René Mioch. In that final he lost 1-6 to Lukas Wenig. All Dutch players who aren’t through yet, good luck tomorrow!
