Brilliant day of darts for Holland: Dirk and Vincent through to round 4
Wim Blokpoel - Today, the 28th of december 2020, we saw two more Dutchman play in the last 32 of the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship. First we saw World Grand Prix Finalist Dirk ‘Aubergenius’ van Duijvenbode who played Englishman Adam Hunt. Dirk started the match amazing, and soon it was 1-0 in sets for Dirk. Hunt was playing good as well but Dirk won the second set as well as he got 2-0 up into the second break. Then, it looked like Adam Hunt would win the third set as he was waiting on 40 in the deciding leg. However, Dirk threw an amazing 114 finish to win the third set as he came 3-0 up. This seemed to be the end for Hunt, and soon it was because Dirk won the 4th set as well: it was a 4-0 win and Dirk van Duijvenbode got through to the last 16 of the PDC World Championship for the first time in his career where he will now take on 3 time BDO World Champion Glen Durrant.

It was a Dutch afternoon, as we continued it with former UK Open finalist Vincent van der Voort who had to play against former UK Open champion Nathan ‘The Asp’ Aspinall. The Dutch Destroyer started the match brilliantly as he won the first set 3-0 in legs while averaging 115. It was obvious that this wouldn’t be the standard for the entire match, however the second set was won 3-0 by Fast Vinnie as well as he came 2-0 up in sets without losing a leg! Aspinall started to fight back after it and won the next set: 2-1. This went on as Aspinall made it 2-2 and the comeback was on. It looked as if this would be the point where Vincent would lose it, but this wasn’t the case: the next set was won 3-1 by Van der Voort as he made it 3-2 in sets, and despite the fact that it was cold in Ally Pally (As Vincent told in his interview) he won the next set as well and produced one of the biggest shocks of this World Championship: Vincent won 4-2 and threw world number 6 Nathan Aspinall OUT of the tournament!! Dutch Darts couldn’t think of a better afternoon session than this one!

Tomorrow evening we have Danny Noppert playing in the last 32 against Dave Chisnall and Michael van Gerwen playing against Joe Cullen in the last 16. Hopefully that evening will be as good as today’s afternoon was.
