Anca Zijlstra wins Swiss Open

Wim Blokpoel - Today the 2022 WDF Swiss Open was held, with Dutch participants in the men and women event!

Women

In the women Swiss Open, Anca Zijlstra was the number one seed! In the quarter-finals, she beat Mirjam Schuepbach 4-1, as she went through to the semi-finals! There she played Germany’s Marlene Klupsch who she beat as well! In the final Zijlstra took on number 2 seed Suzanne Smith, and it went the full 9 legs, as it was 4-4. Zijlstra won the deciding leg, and picked up the 4th WDF ranking title of her career, the first of 2022! 

Men

In the men event, 4 Dutchmen managed to get to the last 32. 16th seed Alexander Merkx took on Enes Yavuzcan who he whitewashed 4-0! 8th seed Moreno Blom beat another player from Switzerland in Marcel Walpen, 4-1, and 10th seed Chris Landman beat German Karsten Kornath 4-1 as well. Finally, former Lakeside World Champion Jelle Klaasen beat Marcel Apitz 4-1 making it 4 Dutchmen in the last 16 as well. There, Merkx beat German Yannis Ole Holtkamp 4-2, while Blom had a 4-1 win over 9th seed Ben Hazel! Landman unfortunately lost 2-4 to Andy Bless from Switzerland. Jelle Klaasen did manage to make it 3 Dutch Quarter-Finalists as he had an impressive 4-2 victory over third seed Mark Barilli! 

An all Dutch quarter-final between Merkx and Blom, was won by young talent Moreno Blom. Klaasen unfortunately lost his quarter-final to Martyn Turner. Last Dutchman standing in the semi-finals Moreno Blom, took on Hungarian Gabor Takacs who he lost to 1-4, still another great run in a WDF event for Blom though!
