19 Dutch players through to final stage!
Wim Blokpoel - After Veenstra, Plooy and Pronk on day 1 and Proosten on day 2, another 15 Dutch players today got through to the final stage of EU Q-School 2021. 2 of them were day winners, while 13 got through by ending in the top 43 of the order or merit. One of the day winners was the one and only 5 time world champion Raymond van Barneveld. Van Barneveld qualified yesterday already by topping the otder of merit, but decided to play again to day to get some more confidence, and so he did! RVB started with an easy 6-0 win against Erwin Ziermeier. That was followed in the last 32 by a 102 average to beat Dennie Olde Kalter 6-3. In the last 16 it was another easy win for the Dutch legend, 6-1 against Mindaugas Barauskas. And in his final match RVB won 6-2 against Belgium’s Kenny Neyens. So RVB produced another impressive day, and we’ll see him back on sunday!
The other Dutchman who won today, was quite a surprising name, Target’s Jeremy van der Winkel. Van der Winkel started with an easy 6-0 win against Leo Hendriks. In round 2 he got just over the line 6-5 against Philip van Gasse. The last 32 was another easy 6-0 win against German Sven Haltmayer. Van der Winkel produced his best match in the last 16 where he averaged almost 85 in a 6-3 win against fellow Dutchman Wesley Plaisier. And in the final match it was a 6-4 win against Geert de Vos to get into the final stage.
So apart from those 2 brilliant players, 13 other Dutch players got through to thr final stage by ending in the top 43 of the order of merit. Yesterday we saw Moreno Blom and Eimardo van Engelen earning enough points already, and today they were joined by 11 more players: multiple Eurotour participant Wesley Plaisier who earned 4 points, just like Dutch talent Patrick van den Bogaard did. 3 points were earned by Jeroen Mioch and BDO World Championship participant Dennie Older Kalter. 2 points turned out to be enough as well, so other players who went through were 2020 BDO World Championship quarter-finalist Chris Landman, Jaimy van de Weerd, Rients Visser and Michael Stoeten. And finally, Dutch talent Gian van Veen and Roland Hol got even through despite earning only 1 point! Finally, the same applies for Gillian Koehoorn. However, he was pulled out of Q-school by the PDC yesterday, so it’s not clear wether he’s allowed to play into final stage or not. On the other hand, if Koehoorn and Egor Tvorogov, a German player who withdrew today, that means that Dutch Toon Greebe, former PDC World Championship participant, would be allowed to play into the final stage. I want to wish all Dutch players who got through good luck in the final stage, and tomorrow it’s time for group B to start their 2021 Q-school! So daily updates are expected again then, here on Dutch Darts.
