7 Dutchmen in last 32 of Players Championship 4
Wim Blokpoel - Today Players Championship 4 of 2022 was played in Wigan.
Westervoort’s Jermaine Wattimena started well with a 6-4 win over Scottish John Henderson. He then comfortably beat Eddie Lovely 6-1 to make the board final. Here Wattimena lost, 2-6 to eventual winner Joe Cullen. ‘Aubergenius’ Dirk van Duijvenbode beat new tourcard holder Shaun Wilkinson in round 1 6-3. DVD then easily beat Jack Main 6-1. Round 3 also was the end for Van Duijvenbode, as he lost 3-6 to Keegan Brown despite an average of 99,1. Holten’s Danny Jansen beat James Wilson 6-3 in round 1. In round 2 Jansen played on stream against Michael Smith, and threw the game of his life! An astonishing average of 106,2 and a 6-2 win over the Bullyboy. In the last 32 Jansen lost 2-6 to Kim Huybrechts.
In round 1 Purmerend’s Vincent van der Voort survived matchdarts on the stream to beat former Lakeside World Champion Scott Waites 6-5. VVDV then also edged out Latvian Madars Razma 6-5, but in round 3 it was a 5-6 defeat for the Dutch Destroyer against Jonny Clayton. Niels Zonneveld had another good day, which he started with a 6-3 win over Irish Keane Barry. In the last 64 Zonneveld averaged 97 in a 6-1 demolishment over Mervyn King!! In round 3 his average even improved to 102,9 but he didn’t win a single leg!!! Despite a ton plus average Zonneveld lost 0-6 to Adam Gawlas who averaged 103,7 himself!
Former monthly guest Kevin Doets started with a 6-0 whitewash over Toni Martinez. In the second round he demolished German’s number one Gabriel Clemens as well with 6-1!! In his 4th board final in a row, it was a 4th round 3 defeat in a row for Doets. He lost 5-6 on the stream against Dimitri van den Bergh. Damian Mol finally got his first ranking money of the year, by beating Brett Claydon 6-4. Mol even managed to get a second win, 6-4 against Croatian Boris Krcmar. In his board final Mol lost 4-6 to ‘Superchin’ Daryl Gurney.
5 time world champ Raymond van Barneveld started the day with a ton average and a 6-1 win Nathan Rafferty. In round 2 RVB got 4-1 up, but eventually lost 5-6 to Ricky Evans. Dutch number one Michaek van Gerwen beat fellow Dutchman Jimmy Hendeiks 6-3 in round 1 with a 99 average. However, in round 2 MVG lost 4-6 to Cameron Menzies on stream.
Ron the bomb Meulenkamp edged out Jeffrey de Zwaan 6-5 in round 1. In the last 64 Meulenkamp lost 2-6 to Stephen Bunting. Berry van Peer demolished former Lakeside World Champion Richie Burnett 6-1 in the last 128, before losing 2-6 to George Killington.
Dutch first round defeats came from: Martijn Kleermaker (5-6 to Luke Woodhouse), Geert Nentjes (3-6 to Darius Labanauskas), Maik Kuivenhoven (4-6 against Krzysztof Ratajski) and Luc Peters (1-6 against Van den Bergh)
